Celtic 4 Killie 1
When Magic wheeled away with his new improved out stretched armed, look at me I’m great, celebration after his 2nd and Celtic’s fourth goal I could just imaging what was going through his head.
“Forget about that fat, baldy welsh fellow, I carried him last year, look at me I’m the man, I’m your new hero, now where’s my agent I need to re-negotiated my image rights”
For us to be successful this season we need magic to be fit all the time. His overall performance and his nose for a half chance prove that he is pivotal key for us. Fully fit for the whole season he will score us 25 goals but more importantly how many more will he create and how many will his partner in crime score?
“That Miller does some running aboot” proclaimed one wag, the other replied “Aye pity it’s always chasing his 1st touch” Touché and unfortunately true.
Miller proved on Saturday what we will get from him. A lot of work, he will be a pain in the arse to defenders- how the 1st goal was created- he will miss chances, moves will breakdown due to a poor touch, he will fly in Kung Fu style challenges due to frustrations at his 1st touch and he will get chances and I’m sure he will score goals.
But will he get the grace from the certain Celtic fan, even though he got a great reception when he left the field there were some still mumping and moaning. There are still some who only see Kenny Miller of R*ngers.
Never thought there would be many, but some have been vocal about it round me and these are the same loud mouthed ones who will berated any home-grown Celtic talent as pish after a lousy pass, while praising a new signing as being unlucky after a similar woeful attempt.
The only way Kenny will shut them up is with a wayward shot that hits them in the coupon when he is bearing down on the goalie. Nae goals wee man that’s the key, stick wan in the onion bag at Tynie on Sunday, strip bollok naked and jump into the Celtic support.
Maybe not but you get my drift.
Decent enough performance, with some of the most vocal voices against GS backing down on Saturday night, wait for this, praising the football we played and some mentioning in the smoking beer gardens in hushed tones Tommy Burns Celtic in comparison.
Maybe, but we are not there yet. When Lenny comes back the fast movement in the midfield will stop. The fact is we were that bad in pre-season that one decent performance shouldn’t hide the lack of quality that we had shown in the preceding 6 games. This team is still work in progress and might not bear any resemblance of the team that line up in September.
Jaro will probably not have the chance to cement a relationship with Stan P- full credit to Stan P he was back to his tigerish self on Saturday, watching scouts perhaps, and he fancies a bit of tax free fun? - our defence still needs work with Caldwell having lapses in concentration that shouldn’t happen, Mo is not the answer and we have a lot of players who are 1st team players to come back in hopefully backed by a few CL quality recruits.
If this happens then it begs the question, where do we fit everyone in? The revolving door and the constant stream of black Glesga taxi’s will be kept busy hopefully between now and September ferrying- not Simon- no marks out and could be in.
Saturday proved that at home at least we have the quality to get through the 1st month of the season until GS finalises his squad. Away? That’s a different story all together.
One swallow doesn’t make a season and getting carried away after a good result doesn’t for me make sense. Our problems could come home to roost on Sunday at Tynie.
Talking about pre-season here’s a wee link to a DC United site that D from the Dcentres- DC’s ultra’s- e-mailed about. Interesting read and if you can bear it go back and read his reports on the pre-season humping they gave us.

Cheers for the match report Kevin
Like my reports to be balanced something that I find missing from other sites and the papers who tend to go too far the other way.
Haven't seen the goals yet, hoping to see them later tonight or tomorrow depending upon commitments.
Glad that the booing seemed not to take place as I was worried that it might and that BQ was well received in general. Glad that the performance was well at last someting to be happy about, keep it up and I'll be happy. It's a lack of application (no sweat) and then stupid excuses that do my head in.
On a totally different tangent, the priest running that pre-marriage weekend I had to go on was a mad Leeds fan, did he not rate Miller!
Really surprised me. I do rate him, which is why I found it particularly galling when he left. Still would find it hard to cheer him, if he came back to us. He would have to do some graft to get back in my good books.
Off for the work 5s now, hoping for signings later in the week.

A wee aside before I comment, our new friends at DC United have post a nice wee article calling me honourable-right he doesn’t know me- titled The Value of Occasionally Staying Silent.
Looks like LOTW has forged another linked in the long line of Celtic friendship.
Baldy try and keep my reports balanced but some of the praise I heard from guys on Saturday was over the top. These were the same guys who were berated us big style after the man yoo game.
I sometimes go over the top but that is due to the fact I’m a fan and sometimes fans go over the top…….
Still room for improvement but if we get a result at Tynie then I will be impressed…..
I watched Miller a few times last year and was well impressed. Would I accept him back? Cross that bridge if it happens.

On to the next match, surely we won`t let Hearts sweep us away in the first 10 minutes again?
I added to your comment on the DC blog, very interesting approach to commenting on the games.
I`ve seen that pointless possession too often!
I think I prefer the home outfit to this trans continental international away kit.
Ciao.

Ian the home kit was playing havoc with the blog settings.
And the dc blog your right very interesting way of reporting and covering games.
Tynie- 1st 10 are vital, get them to 20 mins in no goals or us a goal up then we will see what they are made off.
