Never Loved Elvis….

Unsure if the Wonder Stuff had a song called never loved Elvis but they did have an album of that title. The Wonder Stuff was one of the biggest bands at ma high school. Me? I didnae get them at all. All that size of a cow and circle square just didnae register wie me at that time. Now welcome to the cheap seats I can refer to been in many a hell hole- Livingston? - where all the seats are cheap- Ibrox?

It wasn’t until a few years ago that I started to like the wonder stuff and that was only because I heard their lead singer Miles Hunt do a solo session of some of their “hits”. Another reason I was put of all those years ago was due to the singer name. I mean would you trust a band whose singer name was cockney rhyming slang for a term of abuse?

But I always thought Steven Pressley was a Miles Hunt. His caveman appearance, his image in the meeja as the natural successor to braveheart throne, his general demeanour and his comments aboot poor old Neil Lennon always made me think he was a Miles Hunt.

All this with oot knowing the guy. But we all know it’s a fitbaw fan right to character assonate blokes we dinny ken. I mean we pay their wages and the money we spend going to watch games gives us the right to shout what we want to somebodies son.

Now, when I heard Elvis had left the building I text a few readers of this site ma fears that GS may just fancy him. I knew that he wee ginger ninja may just see an international captaino with experience going for sod all while myself and a few others only saw a ex r*nger over-rated buffoon who looked like he could do with a decent wash. I also thought GS may just see a chance to get one over Romanov and also that Elvis saw things the same way.

When Balde broke his leg I knew Elvis would be wearing the hoops. The questions regarding him being a bit part player were answered in the moment Balde buckled under his weight. So as I left the game I prepared maself for the sight of Elvis in the hoops. And to tell you the truth while being strange it disnae seem as wrong as I 1st thought.

So he made his debut, I was in a boozer watching it, and a round of applause went up both in the stadium and in the pub when he took his 1st touch. Surprised I was at this judging by the indifference the signing had been received. But this maybe down to the fact that we have signed a quality- in the Scottish league sense- stopgap until Big Mick and Caldo returning from injury.

Now big Mick had been playing on one leg for months now and needed a break and I’m sure GS thinking was a pairing of Balde and Elvis until his 1st choice CB’s are available again. Balde bad luck put paid to that and the young O’Dea has stepped up to the plate with great aplomb.

While a pairing of O’Dea and Balde would have me having sleepless nights I’m comfortable with Pressley and O’Dea. I mean, Elvis made Webster look like a player and he has enough experience to help O’Dea settle doon and continue his impressive start to his hopefully hoopy career and not a Steve Cahill or Lex Baille hoopy career.

On Sunday Elvis returns to Gorgie of Lithuanian with possible revenge on his mind. For him to achieve this he needs more than just him to be up for the mission as oor away performances have been as bad as the 1st episode of “Shameless” the other night with the Motherwell game ranking as shocking.

With Lenny having the day oaf for being stupid oor midfield presents problems. Tommy G, Jaro and Sno are the 3 competing for two places but to tell you the truth are any of them man enough to stand up to the bully boy, rough hoose tactics that Hearts will employ.

GS again berated Tommy G at the game at Fir Park for not following orders and his lack of discipline when following a game plan makes playing him in this game along with Naka a risk. Tommy G sees himself as an old fashioned number 10 while Naka is oor old-fashioned number 10. But ye have to play the gravedigger. Too much ability and he has stood up and been counted on the goal front in hard away games already this season.

Jaro canny tackle a fish supper, but is disciplined when it comes to following orders. Also he looked like a fitbawer against Killie in the middle of the park instead of a giraffe on ice when he played centre forward. Is he tough enough to handle Gorgie? Well, 1st time oot rabbit caught in headlights was the phrase I used and that may play on GS mind.

Sno the big fellow is built like a boxer and tackles like Jaro. The pace of the game may catch him oot but there is no question the boy has ability and he is useful doing the waterboy job i.e. fetching, carrying and playing the simple ball. A lot has been placed on the big mans shoulders, to early for me, but again his ability to follow orders could see him get the nod and also the ability to keep the ball could be useful if the game gets to hectic.

Naka is usually dropped for this game. I think the formation will depend if GS feels the Japanese magician is ready to handle the most dangerous ground in Scotland.

Miles Hunt once sang “Welcome to the cheap seats” he must have visited Tynecastle. I’m hoping I’m no calling the Hearts manager this week, for the time being anyway a Miles Hunt for an OTT celebration on Sunday this time.

It doesn`t look as if you are looking forward to this but with Hearts going for 3 in a row at their Edinburgh pittodrie it`s up to Celtic to prove that they learn from previous mistakes. I was surprised that big Jiri didn`t get on the field last week but I`m sure that he`s part of the plan.
With some hard fixtures coming up this would be a good one to win. it`s about time that the Bhoys `turned the corner` and played with some style.

we have drew 3 out of our last 4 games and in all apart from Killie we have not gave a performance in any of them.

Killie we created chances for the 1st time in weeks.

A win at swinecastle could spur us on to achieve performances that the talent on the park should be capable of.

We need to find form with Milano just round the corner.

We better get our act together quick - the 'nightmare team' is back in town - can't afford to slip up now.

Only kidding...

As for the game, for me Naka must start - he is the main man now - starting to pull the strings & he's toughened up.
I'm more worried about centre mid - JJ & TG have still a lot to prove in Celtic jerseys. Surely, their (supposed) talent & experience should be enough to handle the likes of Hearts.
As for Frosty, he could get the go ahead from GS but, if so, I hope he's given himself a shake after being harassed by a 3rd division outfit last WE. Too slow in possession - whicjh is a pity 'cos his distribution is as good as Lenny's AND even pulls off the odd forward pass...

As for Hearts, they were imploding a few weeks ago but are starting to play a bit again. They will want to give Auld Elvis a warm reception on&off the field but I think he'll be up to it.
Could turn out to be a very good signing for us - well worth the money!!!

Good to see that TFOD and the SFA have got back together again. Thursday night is lodge night! :-)
With the impressive Chris Killen injured it may well be a change of scene for The Beats.
Sunday I`ll be back to radio hell after Fir Park hell for the last away game. Come on you Bhoys!

I'll be disappointed if we don't see any new faces in today ... and I don't mean Horsey wans like Princess Margaret.

Keving, I hope the players haven't had a week off!
Don't they come in every day - unless they have a sick note due to having been out on the randan until 4 in the morning.
Ooops, my mistake, that's waht hapens at the cheekchappy outfit.

Obviously it would be good if Shaun signs but it won't feel the same as a new quality signing - which is something I think we need to inject that buzz again as we go to wrap up the league and prepare for the Milan game - not to mention showing the rest who's boss moneywise.

Derek's going nowhere but Beats must surely go on loan (as a last chance to prove himself).

We need Marshall on the bench for Milan (remember Barcelona).

Apparently, Horsefield is a real hard character - so he could maybe does us a turn as backup for Jan. Sometimes I think we're missing a bit of steel in the team. Remember CS slapping Nancyboy?

Anybody else getting fedup with the Proclaimers saga? I would take one now (Brown cos he's harder) then wait and see what's happening in the summer.

Rangers looking to get their game cancelled - give them more time to get the cheekycrappies bedded in - they are a joke.

Still that could be 20pts ahead on Sunday - but we'll have to be on our game - looking forward to seeing it, even if it's only on Ch67 :0)

Sadly I`m not going to Milano. it is a place I`ve been to before. The Castello Sforzesca, the Cenacolo vinciano (last supper), St Ambrogio church, the Brera gallery, the cathedral and the fancy shops. Didn`t see any football though.
I did hear that Celtic fans left Piazza del Duomo in an awful mess last time. Not cool.
I hope when we go there is still a chance of reaching the last 8.

DundeeUnt shipped 5 goals last week at home - so 10 goals in two games shows what their worth.

Let them think everything is now hunky dory, with no need to bring any quality in.

It changes nothing for the Champios - 3points tomorrow is still what we're looking for.
1-0 nailbiter will do me, although I would love to see a few goals :0)

Who's captain ?

What about the Telfmeister for skip? Just a thought.
McGeady is the longest serving player in the team!

Good shout, Ian. That never occured to me - I think he could do a job. But what about TG ?
Experienced player and always bawling at everybody, including the ball boys. Might help him to get a grip.

To early to even consider Auld Elvis. He'll have enough emotions tomorrow anyway.

At a future date, I would consider Wilson if he continues the way he started. Very articulate when interviewed and seems to have his head screwed on, which is important.
Of course, I'm forgetting about Caldwell, and there's Mick as well.

Nerves starting to build up 9nothing to do with the huns winning today, as this is my usual condition before tough/important games.
Still last year at about this time when we played Hearts we were only 4 points ahead of the pack.
I think we tend to forget that even with an extra 6 CL games, we're no' as bad as all that!!!

4-5-1? well it`s important that Celtic can vary tactics and remember they have lost the last two at the swine. I wouldn`t split the front two but I`m not the decision maker!
Don`t be bullied and take our chances, that`s my recipe for success.
Come on the Bhoys!

Just a point, why would a member of the R*ngers management team be wearing shorts with long socks?

Jarosik in place of McGeady/ Riordan. Is this his real position? JJ as MOTM!
Go for it Celts! :-)

Okay I was wrong, big Sno-ey took the MOTM prize on Radio Scotland.:-)
I was shaking a bit near the end. Radio commentaries will kill me! :-/
That was brilliant!
Celtic, Celtic, Celtic! 8-)

Is that this Miles Hunt character? :-)
Some clearance by the Telfmeister but the header may not have been going in and the good Telf had directed it toward the goal. I can imagine how the anti fans would have reacted if it had gone in. FFS would have been a mild comment.
Praise to the support, if the radio commentator isn`t gonna tell us that Celtic have scored, we need their cheers to keep us informed! Both goals were part of a guessing game! :-)(not unusual)
Still got Inversneckie and aberdeen away coming up. :-/
Bring on the Paisley Saints!
