The Lotw Diary- Friday

Could this be a black Friday in the future of oor club? Has the white elephant that is, or was, Murray Park came back and shoved a tusk right up oor arse by producing a team of all conquering Brazilian esq baw players wie added giud auld thuggery thrown in? Or was it a case of men against boys in this early stage of the player’s future development?

The former is more likely wie the most glaring fact oor “golden generation” that dominated the yoof game in Scotland has moved on to the reserves, securing another league title, and 1st team and the team now trying to take the mantel are not up to the job, yet.

Now, I don’t get to under 19 games or reserve games. I’m no longer a signed up member of the weekly Pravda bulletin and I have missed, due to his work commitments, though read his match report from last night and you will see the soul of a heartbroken man, Celticblog- link on the side of the page- husnae been able to keep me abreast wie the season. So I’m restricted to reports from the offisal sites, which sometimes are typed through green tinted specs.

Yesterday, I bought ma 1st Pravda of the year. Wanted to see how the league win was reported and I wanted to see the preview of last nights game. Peter the pointer was interviewed regarding the yoof cup final as he played and one won and the Celtic under 19 manager used a teabag analogy to describe the task ahead for his bhoys.. He said you don’t know how good a teabag is until you put it in hot water.

Well I will use a Peter Kay analogy to surmise the outcome. R*ngers were the hobnobs of tea dunking biscuits when faced wie the hot water and the young hoops well were Lidils rich tea and disintegrated at the 1st sign of the boiling cup.

The hoops coaching staff wanted to see if the bhoys had the mental strength to play for the hoops and some were left found wanting. From the reports I read r*ngers were the more physical, mature side and the young hoops struggled to stand up against this.

Yes, early goals make a difference in the outcome of games but as some of the bhoys wake up this morning, bodies aching and probably feeling doon some will be envisaging careers wie Ross County, Stenhousemuir and Sligo Rovers after such a failure in a high profile match.

Right, the league disnny lie and one win apiece in the league, heid to heid, and level on points going into the final game maybe is a better indicator of both teams. The damage last night collapse could cause for this group could be untold. Then again it could prove to be fluke and the bhoys will grow and mature as from what I have read they are a very young side and one in fact I didnae recognise any names apart from Sheridan, Caddis and Millar.

Thing is from what I have seen from oor main rivals recently at 1st team level the anti fitbaw is alive and well and the young bhoys will need to get used to the thug in fitbaw boots approach. Make no mistake last night and the way we go aboot recovering from it is a test to the yoof program at CP.

Oh a wee aside, as they across the road celebrate their any port in a storm victory have a wee look at their team sheet, remember the names that are being lauded today and see how many are aboot in five years time.

I’m willing to bet more from the Hoops team will still be at CP plying their trade.

Forza The Hoops

Wouldn't read too much into it.
I remember a 5-1 gubbing being reversed to a 6-2 and followed up by a few year's of dominance.

Never seen so much furore over a youth final. Certainly don't remember young Celts' victories being brought to everybodies attention - we won it the last two years and not a sniff.

Sad to say that very, very few come thru the home grown system and make it to the big time. Even if they do they, the chances are that they'll shoot off at the first flash of cash.

People might say _ ah, but look at Ajax. But that just makes me think about what we mentioned on a previous thread (constant trickle of youngsters from the old countries,...).

Anyway, what's the team news for Sunday?
GS teamtalk:
"Ok lads, who wants to be Kaka ?
Naw, Lenny pit yer haun down, you canbe that Guttuso wan."

Oh a wee sting in the tail to finish with. Very good!
The thing is we don`t know but I noticed in last years final against Hearts that they were so much bigger. Okay the Bhoys won that one after extra time where superior skill triumphed but we could be doing with some bigger chaps out there.
It is a new team and I think that they`ve done better than expected this season. We`ve got to praise them!
I think we are seeing a trend of hammer throwing returning in the Scottish game. The referees seem to tolerate any assault on a hooped jersey these days. They won`t change so we have to get some bigger players in again. They must be able to play too! :-)

£14 million set up cost and around £2 million a year running costs to produce one trophy in 5 years and first team players like Alan Hutton?

I hope the next five years of Murray Park are just as successful.

Six- Gs to an eager McGeady who sticks his hand up

“you canny be Kaka either son, think mair Joe Miller…”

The only thing guaranteed is that Lenny will now play from now till the end of the season due to his annocement. A bit like a bands farewell tour…

If we get 3 that flirt wie the 1st team from each batch of youngsters then I think we are doing well.

Ian- Hearts are the main offenders in the return of the hammer throwers, except theirs has a distinct eastern European bond villain feel aboot it……

But agree…at Barrowfield we seem to clone wee baw players and no big feck off defenders or midfieders….

Suppose we could buy them…..

Martinobhoy- so do i mate but the press are in hyberbole over this victory.

Sad really. As said befoer they didnae make that much of a fuss over the last few seasons.

Ian- the sting in the tail is i trust oor coaches at that level. basically i trust TB to get things right.

Kevin, I was thinking that Lenny would play at Ibrox and in final only (hope so anyway - try something different).

A wee bit harsh on Aiden there, I thought. He might be the nearest thing we've got...

But I had a wee chuckle to myself, cos I can just imagine Artur sticking his hand up wi' the rest of them :o)

Looking ahead Paul67 style. I got the e mail prompt for UEFA.com and the provisional list for CL qualification are there. Celtic are in Q3 which means they have to play a winner of of Q2 match. Some decent teams there including Champs of Czech Rep, Ukraine, Denmark and Serbia. Not easy!
Bring on the Hearts and come on the Bhoys!

Ian - do they mention anything about who 2nd place SPL team would get or are we all in teh same hat at that stage (except warm balls for the big league teams) ?

Six- I was maybe being harsh on GS rather than Aiden. I think Aiden and Naka should be let loose in free roles rather than stuck on the wings wie jobs to do. Remember PLG’s fabled 4-2-3-1 system?

And yes I can just picture JJPD sticking his hand up as well…then GS giving the role to Caldwell :-)

Ian- The CL!!!!! Och I’ve just paid for ma last adventure……..

PLG’s fabled 4-2-3-1 system?
Is that the famous Christmas tree formation? Well the Ibrox Santa certainly made it feel like Christmas every weekend for a while!

Caldwell and Kaka -- doesn't even rhyme.
Naka does though :o)

2nd place SPL could face the likes of Valencia, Milan, Liverpool and Arsenal. Too easy!
I`ve got the Hearts head on now, come on the Celts!

I kinda guessed that Killie wouldn`t be so up for the game this week.:-)
Amazing turn about for Man U today and what about Gretna managing a goal just before the end. I feel for St Johnstone manager Owen Coyle, maybe it should be two up two down! Although that wouldn`t have done much for the crowd in Paisley on this Monday evening!
Did I say come on the Bhoys!

Never mind Killie, the Bhoys weren`t so up for the game. :-)
It`s all about getting the team ready for 26th May!
We`ll be there!

Up for it ?

This team better be up for it next week otherwise another embarassment is on the cards.

How can a team not be up for a game in front of 60000 fans - not to mention another few thousand daft punters like me tuning in from around the globe?
I hope there were a few shamefaced players in the dressing room at the end of the 90mins.

Don't know about anybody else but this has put me in a real stinker of a mood. I don't like 3-1 home defeats or any defeats, any time from anybody for that matter.

Something about this team just worries me, and this quote today from our manager worries me even more:
"If we play as well as that next season, I will be happy."

That is NOT what I want to hear.
I want to hear our manager say that we've had too many performances like today throughout the season and he'll be doing hisutmost to get us playing quality football, wiping the floor with half baked outfits like Hearts.

Ian - 26th May? Right now I'm more worried about who we'll be getting in the qualifier. That is what could determine the best part of 07/08.

Kevin - how right you were about your Joe Miller comment the other day!

Sorry for the rant, men, but I had to get it off the old chest.
Cheers!

Yes Kevin the team didn`t or are not capable of sustaining the kind of `pin them back by the ears type pressure` that we Celts crave.
Dov`e`la tempesta? (Where is the storm?)
It didn`t do more than put a damper on the day but I was cheering with the rest at the end, it`s about the silver!
I didn`t lose a wink of sleep because I`ve been using up enough emotion over the past month to last me to August.:-)
Sixtae, I did mention the CL last week but it will be a changed and hopefully refreshed team for that game.
