The Beat Goes On.......

Well, that was great telly. Looked doon and oot and struggling to find any form then bang, bang back in the game. For a moment I thought the boy Nixon was going to win the darts after being 6-0 doon but it was a bridge too far and the bad guy won. Unlike at the castle of swine where the guid guys won after looking doon and oot.

We actually had a where were you moment yesterday. No, it wasn’t Elvis- more of him latter- being the capitaino of the hoops and creating history being the 1st ex-r*nger to have that honour, maybe it should have been Arfur right enough? but 5 minutes in Jaro made and won a tackle. It was against Hartley too, which made it all the better as since we now have Elvis Hartley is ma least favourite Hearts player.

I like Craig Gordon and he seems to like us. I mean how many howlers is he going to have against us? Scotland’s numero uno likes a flap against us and yesterday was no different. I just hope no Arsenal scouts were watching as the game yesterday probably saw their two targets to replace the nutty German against each other.

Unfortunately for us the Pole in the goal came oot of it wie more credit than Gordon. Arfurs double save just before half time kept us in the game in spite of the Telfmiesters best efforts. His mis-hit clearance wie his left foot then had to attempt a Brazilian like overheid, bicycle volley scissor kick to clear the baw.

Amazingly he did it.

2-0 doon at half time would have been curtains. It also would have been an undeserved margin as the 1st half was terrible for both teams wie the jambos only slightly better after some wee Lithuanian puppet hit an arsehole winder that ended up in the back of the net.

Then, unsure what happened at half time, we started the 2nd half all the better. Then came the beats. Straight away he began to stretch the creaking jambos backline with his canny ability to find space in the channels and directness compared to Magics nambie pambie fumblings.

The midfield had an oot ball instead of, like the majority of the 1st half, having no options, which ended up us losing possession and bring the maroon hoards back on top of us. Sno began to look like player, a slight resemblance to Regi Blinker, right enough, if Regi had been in a grow bag, with his promptings, turns, flicks and creative output probably made him have his most productive game in the hoops.

He still loses the ball in bad areas- is there any guid place to lose the baw right enough- and the Hearts goal came from him marauding doon the wing and losing possession trying a ronaldinho esq stepover. At 19 he gave a 2nd half performance of someone older than his years. Stood up and was counted.

In the 2nd half Even the frustrating ogre from Madrid stopped committing fouls and decided to pass to guys in the black and green stripes. Tommy G ran aboot without much purpose or end product but again I think his presence in a place where we get bullied canny be underestimated.

GS went for a physical and imposing looking side. Elvis, O’Dea, Tommy G, Jaro, Sno and JVOH are all big players. This tactic for me ensured that we didnae get bullied by the team that loves to bully. When we went in front Elvis and O’Dea made sure that every heider, cross baw or shot they were going to get in the way of it.

At the final whistle Elvis, mouthing f**kin brilliant and hugging all his new teammates, turned round to the hoppy support and gave a clenched fist salute. How times have changed. He got a nice reception from the nastiest support in Scotland but they soon reverted to type by booing his every touch.

Must say, his performance was one of a leader, a man on a mission and judging by the players comments he is well respected in the changing room. He has his limitations and is not a forward thinking, long term signing but so far he is proving to be able cover in area where we are weak squad wise.

Yesterday’s result was obtained with oor creative force having a quiet game and without the services of Maloney, McGeady and Riordon. GS got his sub right when he looked at the young bench- oldest was 26- and choose Beats over McGeady or Riordon.

The fact that Beats was chosen over King Kenny shows how far doon the pecking order Kenny has fallen. The remit GS gave Beattie was right up Kenny’s street but his goal drought and lack of finishing prowess made Beattie a better option. Yesterday an article stated that Kenny has had a 20% accuracy rate this season. Coo with a banjo springs to mind.

Jaro as a left winger was a strange one. But a role he did look comfortable, even if I’m not comfortable with it being a regular occurrence. His goal was one of sheer individual skill and ability that we all know he possesses. That’s what makes his performances so frustrating. One game in five from him is not a guid return for the money we splashed. But that’s, for me, two good games in the last two league outings.

But I’m sure the fact both have been when he has been playing in his favoured midfield area has nothing to do with it eh Gordon?

A victory and a performance against a team that were on a no bad run of form. A comfortable performance and victory in the end at a place where we usually don’t do well. Our talent shone in the 2nd half and it was aboot time.

That’s us done the double dunter in the league. Home and away unbeaten against everyone. Very O’Neill esq in the 2003/04 season. Not bad for what for some are calling a poor side eh?

Double dunter but every game is a mini war of attrition.
We wouldn`t expect the team to change much for St Mirren. (No training ground injuries please.)
I think it was trusting of our manager to expect Hearts pressing game to back off after 60 minutes but at 1-1 we had a good passing sequence finished by a JJ shot just minutes before the winner was scored. Not too much attacking near the end, with a few corners to deal with but that made the final whistle sound sweeter. I`ll remind you that the 3 previous away games, Dunfermline, Thame and Motherwell saw us concede in the last minutes. So we had to be strong this time!
Singing a happy song....!!

A victory and a 'second half' performance, cos the first half was pretty dire.

Of the midfield only Naka was getting pass marks by half time.
However, the a cuppa tea and a wee swatch at the Daily Rangers during the break done the world of good and they came out looking like men on a mission.

I must admit my reaction when I saw Beattie coming on was unprintable but he then made me eat those unprintables.
Strong and direct, he caused them all sorts of bother - a double battering ram along with JVofH.
If we could be sure that he was going to kep fit - we wouldn't need any Horsefield type backup.

You're right about Artur being better than Gordon, but he did have a couple of flaps at crosses - hopefully just a ploy to keep the Arenal scout uninterested.

I thought the back line was solid enough but, if Mick and O'Dea are going to be in against Milan, we really need to start playing them together as much as possible, once Mick is 100%. So that might mean limited playing time for Elvis in the coming weeks...

I see that PLG is back in a job - what about a PSG v Huns in the UEFA cup - probably will never happen as one lot are as bad as the other.

Also with the Huns in for Weir - our newcomers better be good :o)

Six- the reaction in the pub I was in when the Beats came on was unprintable as well but after 15 mins they were sheepishly looking into their pints:-) Same as faither G. He was rather sheepish at the final whistle after big Snos performance. I just don’t think faither likes defensive midfielders. He hates Lenny so sno was the new fall guy yesterday.

Beattie is a great sub to have but still unsure if he can start and make the same impact. Big Jvoh lit up when he came on and the big fellow was where all guid strikers should be.

The horse is a back up for Jvoh. GS will play someone alongside him with pace so if the beats stays fit he may get used more often than not.

Ian- there was no danger O’Dea and Elvis were letting anything by them in the last 9 minutes. I’m sure Elvis would have took a bullet if it meant getting one over Romanov.

But if Caldwell is not going to be back in time, then I agree Mick and O’Dea must play soon to get an understanding. I mean I don’t want to be taking a heart attack in the san siro…….

PLG back at PSG? I’ll need to e-mail ma Paris ultra mates to see what they think aboot that.

David Weir- I’ll get ma coat…….

Lisbon is a happy memory and the 40th anniversary may be considered to be worth celebrating but (Alan Hansen like!) it puts pressure on our current team and should be allowed to be consigned to the past.
It`s been wrung out so much it`s starting to come apart.

thats interesting how u both think that.

im of the total opposite view.

i thought it was a disgrace the way the lisbon lions used to be treated by our board and thought it was a masterstroke by oneill when he came in to take them all out to dinner and things like that and start getting them involved in certain ways around the club again.

making money from it is just one of those things unless u are going to give the strips, dvds etc away for nothing but if u can't celebrate your greatest ever team, result, player etc in years to come then wot is the point?

Seven,
it`s certainly worth the recognition and I suppose it will attract the attention that it deserves. I respect the players from that team and do regard them as being worthy of being called legends.

anyone know anything about kyle lafferty?

we are meant to have made a bid.

6ft 4 striker, sounds good in that sense but don't know anything else apart from he is from northern ireland and supported rangers.

SO much for our own tall young striker Finnbogasson then.

No offence to the lad but I thought we might have been aiming higher -- the poor man's Stokes ?

Not too chuffed if this is it - he's scored 4 goals in the Championship - hardly the stuff to make Milan lose any sleep.

It's not often I'm wrong & I could be again :o)

Kevin, it may be tomorrow before I get back to you. I can ask about advice for tickets too.
I know we have to trust our manager`s judgement, sometimes you just feel sorry for the young players at Celtic. :-(

i think reg the young players such as finnbogasson, they must not be ready if they never even got a sniff when jvofh was out and we were crying out for a physical presence at times.

i have never seen him in the flesh but for a while he seemed to be doing well, but he does seem to have disapeared along with rocco quinn, who during pre-season was involved and scored our only goal in america.

kev -wot is a dignified way to do it, if we went down that route with the strip, which we quite rightly done before with the 1988 centenary strip then would we not just be doing the same as say arsenal who last season had that burgendy home strip and man utd who reverted back to the yellow and green strip back in 1993 or whenever it was?

celtic will make money out of shirt sales anyway so are you suggesting they do this and bring out something else for the lisbon thing, would that not cost the ordinary fan more money?

Centenary tops are different and elaving ground tops are different.

Correct the top would sell anyway but the fact that they have used the Lions as a marketing tool- to sell the top to folk who wouldn't usually buy tops- is what gets ma goat.

I said the gold star and a top that was like the Lisboa one would have done.

The wording round the badge etc looks just over the top in the photo. But it's not confirmed so.....

Ian- after a t/c this morning with the hotel in milano they have confirmed the booking after 3 days of e-mails.

Tickets if ye do a wee bit of investigation work that would be great.

anyone fancy entering the cqn five a sides?
