The LOTW Diary- Thursday
Arsene Fawkirk
The faw oot from the whipping at Westfield continues wie the main bone of contention being the sending off and Lenny’s petulant spat wie the fawkirk fans. Now while geing them the bird is ok in ma book it’s not ok in the SFA offices or by some wee nae mark fan that will have complained aboot the gesture.
This twice in two defeats, do you think there is a link there? Lenny has reacted to fans berating him. This is not an uncommon action by him but one again that leaves a bad taste in collective mouths. Why can’t he just not accept defeat wie the grace and dignity of a Celtic captain? Why does he always have to act like a scorned bully who has become the bullied?
Anyway, Fawkirk seem to have become angels and their players and fans seem to have a case of Arsene Wenger syndrome. Hear no evil, see evil.
Fawkirk have had 3 players sent of this season. Two as far as I know for violent conduct. Darren Barr’s against Hearts was rescinded but in the eyes of the law he lifted his hands so it was a red card. The Hearts boy over-reacted in that case and big Yogi went mad aboot it. Said that they had been cheated and it was a disgrace.
So what did he say aboot Sunday?
"Carl is not that type of boy and I thought it was just handbags stuff,"
So Mr Finnigan didnae cheat and isnny a disgrace to the game. He didnae go doon like a wannabe Loverkrands. It’s just not in his nature, just like it wisnae in Darren Barr’s nature to lift his hands against Hearts or in Darren’s Barr nature to act like a licensed thug for the whole of Sundays’ game man handling the beats at every opportunity.
And of course, any team wie Patrick Cregg and the boy O’Donnell in the midfield are holy virgins and widnae dream of leaving the boot in or throwing doon markers to the opposition I mean, there manager was an angel on the field of play and was against tackling and roughing up opponents wasn’t he?
One rule for one and one for another. Fawkirks reaction post match has made them join the list of teams I want relegated. They shouldn’t have had got promoted wie that shite hole of a ground.
King O’ Kings
Wasn’t it great to hear the Henke interview on Radio hootsmon the other night? For a guy blessed wie so much he is a humble sort. He was the greatest Celt I have ever seen, partly due to the fact that I never saw Jinky, and gave me so much joy. By the sounds of the interview he enjoyed us as well.
With all the talk of Boydchenko probably beating his league scoring record, he is on the way to doing it already, we all know the Scottish meeja will draw comparisons but that’s like comparing a racehorse to a Blackpool donkey. Henke was so much more than a goalscorer, he was talismanic a leader of men who drew inspiration from him to reach greater heights.
A fact not missed by those who know aboot fitbaw. Left Celtic after his peak years went on to a bigger club won the biggest prize available in European club fitbaw. He then retired from top-flight fitbaw only to come oot and play for the “biggest club in the world” for a few months, jist for a laugh and jist because he could.
Where will Boydchenko go when he finishes? Clyde, Motherwell, Preston, Derby or the Louden Bar welfare 11? He won’t be anywhere near Catalonia or Trafford Baw Park.
What made Henke different I think was summed up in two finals. Firstly Seville. On that hot night he dragged a team back into the game wie two pieces of brilliance. The way he hung in the air for those goals was special. When we were all thinking it was a step to far he gave us hope, he made us believe on and of the park that we deserved to be contesting that final.
Interesting to hear that he has never watched that final. Heard a few of the Seville team say that. I haven’t either. Got the DVD but it always gets switched off before the final. Still never seen the goals apart from real time in the stadium.
Will get round to it one day.
His second pinnacle moment came unfortunately not wie us. Last years European Cup final will be remembered as the Henke cup final as he came on and changed the game. In a team containing Eto, Ronaldinho and Xaxi that is no mean feat.
Don’t think I have ever been as pleased for an ex hoop as I was that night. Right, he got us straight into the CL wie the two assists but more in that I thought he deserved it. He deserved to have a CL winners. He deserved to have Ronaldinho begging him to stay- look on you tube and type in Larsson last game for Barcelona, did have a link but canny find it- and he also deserved to have the smelly Mancs wanting him to stay as well.
He said in the interview that he was stubborn and loved people telling him that he couldnae do something. Well after oor strikers performance recently I don’t think Henke could come back to his home and regain his form and score as many goals as before:-) are you reading Henke?
Who is The Best From 85?
Last night, Celtic Tv had a nostalgia night. It started of with “In praise of Cesar” a look back at the centenary season wie the old Scotsport lackey Ian Archer. Then the 1969-cup final was shown in glorious Technicolor.
Now, I have seen this cup final a few times but I have never seen the attempted pitch invasion from der hun after the fourth goal. Why is this never been included before? I mean I know crowd disturbances from them are the norm but this blatant attempt to get the game abandoned should be included in all future mentions of that game.
Then there was an interview wie Dixie Deans. Now I think Dixie was the John Hartson of his day, overweight and under valued. Last night the footage of his playing career gave weight to the notion that the hoops add pounds to you but, mind you, the fact there was a belly hanging oot below those hoops….
Anyway, it got me thinking. Since this is international week and most are not interested in big eck’s wonders then a wee poll to keep us interested. I’ve done cult heroes in the hoops so I’m going to do the greatest hoops 11 since love street 1985.
I have chosen Love Street 85 as ma start date as I was nine and only really remember players from that date vividly. See seven and me are young pups, I think, compared to the rest pf you:-)
So here is ma 11.
Arfur, McGrain, Elliot, Aitken, Shuggie, Naka, Petrov, McStay, Thommo, Larsson and Sutty.
Let the games commence.
Forza the hoops who will have ma support at Tanideechie as after Baldy reminding me aboot big Sieb I decided that I like Dundee and got a ticket.

First ?
:o)
Podium?
The last 5 fixtures have been announced and it`s a boost for the Bhoys!
Killie (a)
Hearts (h)
Them (a)
Aberdeen (h)
Hibs (a)
I know that the them and the Sheepies play on the last day.
forza i hoopi!
Thurd ?
I've never understood the split thing, but in any normal competition, you would think the team that finishes top in a first stage group would somehow be "rewarded" in some way by a kinder draw in the second group stage.
Example being, all teams finishing top of CL groups are drawn against all teams that finish second. So you have some incentive to finish top and you are "rewarded" by what is logically a kinder draw.
That's why I can't fathom this SPL split thing, and I have to ask you Ian - what is the boost?
Indeed, is there any advantage in finishing top pre-split or not ?
3 away games out of 5, one of them being against the 2nd placed team?
Allez les gharçons !!!
The boost is that the Bhoys play Killie, then Hearts and have 2 games after going to Ibrox. that`s the boost! Remember all teams play 19 home and 19 away.
Will I get an untroubled sleep again before this match is played at Tannadice? Probably not!
As I said before, I`m going to the match tomorrow but I couldn`t be less interested and all I hope is that our players come through unscathed.
Bad news for me about the Aberdeen game on 12 May, I`ve to go to a wedding that day. What`s that all about?
Ian - are Killie and Hearts possibly the weakest teams of the 5 - is that what you mean?
Anyway, don't know how the draw was made (innocent hands on warm balls?) but surely H v C on May 20 is not very intelligent when the cup final is in the 26th !
Hope to find a pub where I can see the Scotland game tomorrow - didn't think I would be too interested but, ah suppose if it's in yer jeans, it's in yer jeans...
Enjoy Hampden, Ian - carpe diem and not crappy diem !
Best 11 since 85?
Trouble with that for me is that my first games at Celtic Park date back to 63/64, so my best 11 would probably consist only of players in the 20 years before 85 - I'll even leave you Henke, and play Joe McBride :o)
However, in your thread talking about HL and last years European Cup final - I was lucky enough to be at the game. Spent the whole day mixing with Barca & (to a lesser extent) Arsenal fans, wearing the hoops with Larsson 7 on the back.
Never had my photo taken so much since my wedding :o)
Anyway you can imagine my pride as I walked away from SdeFrance still wi the jersey on. Was half expecting to get a bit of bad mouthing from the Arsenal fans, but they were fine with it - quite a few acknowledging that HE was the man.
It's also good on occasions like that that you can look down and see the wee star above your badge -shows that your not a gate crasher, but you've been there and done it.
I think that the two week wait until the next game was bound to get to people. Of course by 12.30 next Saturday I`ll be as cool as a cucumber.
The task is not massive but the rewards are! Come on the Bhoys!
Glass half full? Players away for Internatonals
Caldwell and Zurawski need the games. Hartley may find his form. It keeps Mick ticking over. Confidence boost for Sno and Beattie?
So long as they don`t get injured! :-)
Players away for Internatonals, part 2.
Gives Naka the chance to have a chin wag with his maw & paw & strut about Tokoyo in the hoops before a kickabout against Peru.
Gives the Scottish hacks the chance to run non-stories about McGeady.
Lets the polish barbers get the bowl out for Majic.
Might earn GC the nickname 'Lazarus'.
Might give Beattie the chance to do a Bambi & win a penalty, and KM let score it after he scalfs it off the goalie.
It's also a chance...
to take bets on how long the wee Ned will last on the park.
to see if big Eck still has donkey ears.
to see if Boydchenko turns up sober.
to see if UEFA will stamp out Doe a deer, which is actually more painful than any sectarian chanting.
Time to go and find a pub...
Miller and Hartley ran themselves silly. Not wise guys!
Big Mick kept himself ticking over, the Beatts helped his confidence.
Zurawski had 90 minutes, Artur a rare clean sheet.
McGeady came on for 4 minutes, O`Dea was a non paying spectator.
Naka assisted with Japan`s 2 goals.
so far, not too bad.
Kevin from my position in the upper BT stand he was always going to score. Honest!
Hartley was poor but he kept trying just like Kenny Miller. More thinking less sweating!
How about
Bonner
McGrain Aitken Elliott and Whyte
Provan McStay Moravcik and Burns
Di Canio and Van Hoojidonk
to play
Boruc
Mjallby Balde and Vaalgaaren
Agathe Lennon Lambert Thompson and Maloney
Larsson and Sutton
I would buy a ticket!
I think Petrov can play instead of wee Shaun!
Oooops!
Harmony?
When I told my wife that Beattie had scored the winner on Saturday she said what I had thought, `why couldn`t he have done that last week!` :-)
Question now is "Can Scotland do a Celtic-in-Milan"?
Hope so but don't think so.
And we WILL see Miller & Hartley continuing to run themselves silly. I fancy that the Beats might come on for Miller after 70min and we might no' even see Boydchenko the fresh air swiper.
A role that Francis "wherzi burds?" McAvennie would have relished...
Personally, I think Eck will swamp the midfield and punt balls to Miller (to be replaced by Beattie after 70mins). The main object of the punted balls will be to win corners and maybees dangerous free kicks.
To quote Eck himself "Not rocket science".
Eck will do a dour 4-5-1.
It will be interesting to see how Scott Brown fares in this game - I thought he looked a player when he came on on Saturday.
If he can turn in a good performance in Bari, it might be worth pushing the boat out for him in the summer (not at 3million though).
As for the McDonald rumours, I think he could be worth the risk -- as long as we're bringing in another quality forward and offloading the guys that have had their chance and failed to take it: KM, Majic, Beats(?).
