The Lotw Diary I Don't Like Mondays..

I should have guessed when oor supporter’s bus was half full. I should have really guessed when walking up to ma turnstile there was bhoys selling tickets. When taking ma seat I should have really guessed due to the swathes of empty seats roond aboot me. What should have put the tin lid on it was the “Jungle Bhoys” display failing due to the number of empty seats in the top tier which, while meant to spell champs looked mair like chumps or nothing resembling a word.

It was going to be a damp squib and team two played their part and went along wie the apathy.

Celtic were like a guy who organises a party at his hoose, starts drinking at 2 in the afternoon, faws asleep by 10pm then awakes the following morning to find his vile neighbour has slept wie his wife and urinated on his living room shag pile.

For us to be comprehensively beaten by a team as bad as Fc Kanus of Midlothian- who are the worse Hearts team in the last two seasons- is not on. They are technically inept- Kingston apart- but highlighted oor failings so easily. We played for a 5 minute spell, but when the Dougal inspired penalty was scored the team, well, we couldnae give an arctic monkeys aboot getting themselves back in the game. When I read oor managers comments afterwards I shocked. Maybe he had been oot on the lash before the interview his team looked like they had been on the lash all week.

So is there any wonder there is apathy? Is it any wonder there has been vast empty spaces at CP all season, reducing revenue and diluting the already poor atmosphere. The poor atmosphere, which causes the DJ to try and get the party started by playing the most terrible of songs. Well, he can’t let the fans or the consumers start a song cause we wouldn’t. The songs played at a deafening volume give the impression of atmosphere but having a look round at people leaving in droves before the cup had went past and the body language of the players it was more Russ Abbot wie Bella Emburg rather than a Hugh Hefner pool party.

Maybe it, just like the team, lacks spontaneity. I mean the players look like they enjoyed last week more than this week. In fact they looked like they couldnae get of the park quick enough and the lap of honour looked forced. I think, Lenny apart, they all would have went straight up the tunnel rather than walk roond the park uninterested. I found maself hoping that if we are celebrating after the Scottish Cup final that it was better and the feeling that the players are so detached from the fans is not so overwhelming.

It was when I watching the fans leaving, listening to a DJ trying too hard, seeing the players uninterested I thought I had come to the end of ma season ticket days, why bother was ma thought. It’s changed it’s no longer not as guid as it used to be we are now a mirror image of a big club glory hunter support which I detest. But in the end it’s down to entertainment.

CP would have been jumping if we had been entertained all season.

Terry Christen, the zippy look-a-like Manc motormouth, said on Talksport on Saturday something I agreed whole-heartedly wie. Now I never thought I would agree wie him.

He said, “Awards and trophies are forgotten about by July and August but you never forget if you have been entertained”

Maybe that’s not the exact words but the sentiment is there. Strange thing is team 2 will probably be forgotten aboot by the end of May.

A couple of threads ago, I mentioned the team's "hard to beat" attitude, and hoping that now that the league was won we could now look forward to some decent flair football.
Pressure and heat off, we could look to a greater volume to our play (67's law of fitba' thermodynamics).

Now, after sulking about the house all last night, I can only class this team as "hard to like".
Silverware, yes of course, but surely to God it needs to be with a wee bit of panache.

Staged trophy presentations do nothing for me. A farce - How can you celebrate after getting cuffed? How come Joe Doumbe got presented with a medal yesterday?
The trophy should be presented after the last match of the league season with the captain and team going up the steps to get the trophy and that's yer whack - nae stupid flares when there's no flair fitba'.

I'm beginning to wonder about GS as manager of Celtic FC. I like him as a bloke, and nobody can deny he's done very, very well in the first 2 seasons BUT can he take us any further?
Anybody else think we should get Roy Keane signed before he gets Fergie's job?
Would RK have played with one guy up front in a home game where we had already won the title in front of 60000 - would ANYBODY else?

Fitba' is about what we saw last Tuesday night - unfortunately, we weren't playing.

See? This is what I`m trying to avoid, the league is won and I should be happy.
Okay, our standards have dropped. A blind man in a fog with a back to front balaclava and sun glasses can see that.
Same as the Hearts and Hibs games two years ago, suckered by pace, without the energy and will to sustain pressure for more than a few minutes at a time. Remember the sustained energy from Hearts when the league was won with a 1-0 a year ago? It would be great to have a team with more pace and strength.
I`m not wrong to ask for more but do I expect it? Funnily enough Motherwell played better two weeks ago than Hearts did yesterday.
I don`t think Gordon Strachan was fooled but to judge a tired team that has just won the prize seems harsh.
Less pressure and heat, less energy available to do work!

Six- aye I noticed JJPD getting his medal I wonder if it was for doing a great impression of Mo Camara?

Watching the celebrations yesterday I felt a bit Stan Petrov by not enjoying it as much as I had done in recent years. I applauded Lenny- laughed at his wee laddie clapping along- felt a bit sad he was going but overall the fireworks and flair were lost on me.

Enjoyed seeing Lubo but was thinking he still looks lean enough to be playing……

GS tactics- the one up front worked last week as from the midfield TG and DR were more offensive thinking than the personal yesterday. I like the system- only McGeady looked comfortable yesterday in it and yes he had a mare- but the players have to be right.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that it worked last week wie certain players starting. But questions have to be asked why KM was the 1st sub and the two ronnies (DR and TG) were only brought on wie 10 mins remaining.

I’m not going to go as far talking aboot replacements but I did say a few threads back that I share your doubts. But..he deserves his chance to build team 3 and wie his financial clout in the market place he should again clean up domestically.

Ian- you are correct, I canny remember the last time we won the game before the trophy presentation. Teams wie something to play for will always find energy from somewhere and I’m sure champions have faltered at the end of the season before.

I’m not judging them as I said the league was won by the hard work done between the defeat at Tynie to the defeat at CP by r*ngers.

It has been all perspiration rather than inspiration though.

I applauded and cheered the players they deserve their medals but questions remain.

The bigger picture is dawning we require new blood, fitter faster stronger and entertaining. If team 3 fails on all accounts then the board not just us will be asking questions.

i'm also sure GS willnae judge a tired team his judgement was probably made long ago and the taxi's phoned.

Ian, I sincerely hope the heat and pressure is steadily building up for next Saturday so that we might see ample evidence of work done at the end of 90min, all that coupled with a simultaneous and spontaneous eruption of authentic GC fitba'.

I know that we have had a good number more of hard games than the rest of the SPL teams. But I am wrong to assume that with the much vaunted size and quality of the squad we've got, we should be able to match the energy levels of the likes of Motherwell and St Johnstone and Hearts at the tail end of the season?

I just hope that the players haven't let that "ceremony" erase what happened before it - there's still work to be done. Starting with Wattie & the Uglies, who make no mistake will be up for it.
Can we finally put them down when we're on top - make them sweat it out for their 2nd spot?

On manic Monday, I'm hoping rather that expecting anything.
I should be feeling better on Friday :o)

PS
News: GS banned for the final?
Does he still get to pick the team?
:o)

I've put ma Cv in for picking the cup final team..unbeaten in FIFA 07 on the Nintendo DS for the last few months.

Hopefully the team will work full pelt this week as i reckon last week would have lax to say the least.

Pick up in training and minds focused on the job ahead. As correctly put wally and the dirties will be looking for 2 in a row marker for next year....

i can hear Hutton and adam sharpening their studs just now...

I'm not alone then with my feeling of some emptyness regarding this season.

What that dirty Manc said is so true. I remember watching Clough's forest Teams and the Dalgleish Liverpool teams and thinking wow as a kid. Man U are doing something again now under the 'cloven-hoofed' one.

Even under the often maligned MON's style of football, we got many decent games with everyone entertained to some extent.

Yesterday, pretty much summed up the seasonm for me. Pretty football but once we got anywhere near their box we showed as much penetration as a eunuch in a brothel.

Not calling for WGS's head or anything like that, but the last 16 of the CL does not merit to mke as much praise as MON's Seville run. This is not our most successful season in years. We have done Better than I expected, but my report card says 'can do better'.

If WGS wants to really lay down a marker as a 'great' then he must instill the mentality that true greats have.

Like the Aussie Cricket and RL teams, it's not just about winning and just doing enough, it's about anihilation, destroying teams. That is what breeds success over generations, a complete and utter ruthlessness when it comes to sport.

If we can get some of that I'll be happy.

Agree! Grind them into the grass. Unfortunately that would mean that forward play must be sustained and it would be good to dispossess the opponents before they reach the penalty box!
Hey! Championees! championees! away away away! :-)
Where did that come from?

Baldy- yer right, again, under MON we always created chances and looked like scoring and until GS finds that formula then sneaking 1-0’s will always bring doubts. Thing that annoys most is that he has a guy who has scored 20 odd goals a season since his debut at SPL level but he wouldn’t play him.

MON’s teams were always falable at this time of the season as well but I think we all never expected that following a saint in some eyes like MON would be as hard as GS is finding it. Sure whoever replaces the clovenhoof will be the same. Unless it’s Roy Keane.

We won’t grind teams into submission wie the attacking, lack of, personnel at oor disposal. We will continue wie the 4-5-1 formation until the end of the season.

The summer is massive for the club.
