The LOTW Diary- Who The Feck Is Jerry Fox? United 1 Hoops 1
Why did no one pick up on ma faux pas? Why did no one notice that Jerry Fox was meant to be Jerry Kerr? When we turned into Sandeman Street on Saturday ma fear that I had made a boob was realised. Amateur, fecking amateur. Bit like ma team. But if there is a Jerry Fox do you think he is a centre forward or a midfielder if so call GS at CP.
Saturday brought back memories of MON’s last season, black Sunday and worse of all Liam’s and Luigi’s teams. It was up there wie the 3-0 defeat to the Harry Rags at Hampden in TB’s first season and in that season we were so woeful it is the worst season I ever watched the hoops.
It was like watching two pub teams on Saturday. The baw was black and blue due to being booted as hard as it could up and doon the park. It was sore as every second touch was a tackle. A team that has had a fare few bob spent on it, in domestic terms, and the highest wage bill in Scotland surely should have a clue how to win and game and how to play fitbaw?
Lacked ideas, lacked guile, lacked pace. Lacked leadership and lack a big doze of baws. Get the baw doon and play no just lump it the way yer facing. Panic on the streets of London once sang the Moz. Panic on the park at Tanideechie every time a hoop player got the ball. Hoof it went as far away from the player as possible.
GS said he was satisfied wie the effort. Correct I was thinking before the equaliser, which the wee feck celebrated right in front of me in the howf that is the fair play stand, that it was perspiration over inspiration. Off the park the manager lacked ideas and baws to change it.
Is he happy that Tommy G is doing his comedy act in front of the hoops support instead of on the park trying to wrestle back midfield dominance from Fawkirk and ICT rejects? Is he happy that a team lacking so much in the creativity stakes can afford to leave a creative player on the bench? Is he happy that oor midfield is so far oaf the pace that we never win the second baw EVER?
5 minutes into the second half JJPD was sent to get warmed up. From ma seat in the fair play stand, Caldwell was struggling in front of me. He was blowing oot his arse, which is no surprise after 4 months oot. As JJPD was sent roond in front of the support to do his thing the fear in his face was clear to see. Is this the reason he didnae come on?
Deek and Cillian also done a warm up but wie 10 minutes left they stopped. They knew GS widnae turn to them to try and threaten a United back line being marshalled by Lee bloody Wilkie and being made to look guid by oor attackers. The bottom-line is on and of the park it was disgraceful. Long-term questions are no being posed and there are no many answers.
Have we sunk that low that we now struggle to over come honest graft? Have oor ambitions that much that players that shine in fellow SPL teams are what we are striving for? After initial impressions guys like Elvis, Caldwell, Wilson- recently- and even Hartley are not guid enough. They won’t take the team forward. If McDonald is an indicator of the future then days like Saturday will become ten a penny.
We have been sold a doozie. Team 2 has regressed by team 1. The fitter, faster, stronger team promised by the management team has failed to materialise. In court they would be sent down for perjury. Rumours of a move to Eastland’s or the northeast would be most welcomed if true if a lot of the murmurings heard on Saturday are reflective.
Oor support was not a nice place to be on Saturday. Frustrations are starting to boil over. The supporters are bickering and on Saturday violence was nearly upon us. Fans are not listening to shouts; they automatically think players are being berated. They bhoy in the same row as me was shouting at Aiden to stay wide give the game a bit of width.
There was no yer shite McGeady or anything. Two rows behind a group of bevvied up young un’s to umbridge at this perceived abuse and abused the so-called abuser. When the so called abuser tried to argue his point backed up I may add by the majority round aboot the young un’s torrent of abuse to all was well oot of order.
Guys you were shouting aboot supporting yer team, not being a Celtic fan etc but yer behaviour and subsequent behaviour afterwards, constantly singing of Aidens name to wind up the so-called abuser was un-Celtic like. But that’s a product of what is happening on the park.
We have developed a siege mentality to certain players. Some players are martyrs whom can’t be questioned. I understand Aiden gets abuse and he does need encourages, he was oor only creative output on Saturday, but give it guys who are abusing players not pointing oot the fact the GS tactics stop us getting any width whatsoever.
We are frustrated. Black Sunday is still too fresh. Bottom-line is this blip has been coming as players and management failings mean we were getting away wie it for months. At least the r*ngers are sh*te though, eh?
Forza the frustrating Hoops.

From previous thread…
Brines is the worst ref in Scotland, again another shocking performance.
Beats now has shot his bolt in the 1st half the chance he had one on one when his 1st touch was terrible summed up his form recently.
McGeady looked in the mood but faded and should have been replaced wie Deek in the second half.
Elvis was oot jumped by Daly all day. Poor Show from the big man another who should be hailing a taxi in the close season.
Draw was a fair result..Dundee Utd deserved at least a draw and their equaliser came as no surprise to any of us in the ground.
Do we over rate Big Jan……he took a lot of abuse from the fans.
Hartley and Lenny are poor. Hartley disnny do anything except hit woeful shots and lenny sits so far back he invites the opposition on top. Have Lenny’s legs gone? Appears so.
Mother well team..i wouldnae complain but wee ginge is a stubborn beast so Lenny will play and we may see the return of Jaro but can’t see many more changes.
Agree time to show baws for a battle and belief in yer ability.
Get the impression that GS won't take a chance with an (all-out?) attacking formation, as he is scared it might backfire.
The question you've got to ask though, is what would the vast majority of the Celtic support prefer?
I think MON found himself in this situation as well, stick by the tried (tired?) and trusted.
Grind out a 1-0 or a 2-1. Juninho? Naw, we'll play him in the CIS cup where there's nothing to lose!
We know how it all ended up.
I haven't questioned GS up till now but I'm starting to have my doubts. Sure, we are 13pts clear.
But here's a question for you:
How many of those points do we owe PLG?
Another question:
Who is Jerry Kerr, never mind Jerry Fox ?
Six this is going to sound bad but...i canny remember PLG scoring a winning goal for us mate.
Understand where you are coming from right enough but we won the games, wie a bit of talent, luck and spirit.
Luck ye canny coach but talent and spirit you can. And thats what's missing.
Is GS our Steve McLaren? Is he a lame duck manager who will never be accepted?
Bottom line is GS just wants us to get over the line and is probably thinking the next two home games will see us get the points required.
Or away problems have been their since pre-season and he won't sort them now.
His position is too dilicate to change to the attacking formation required. Team 2 has failed to deliever and now his task is to get a wounded beast to the water hole.
Jerry Kerr has a stand at Tanideechie named after him. He was Dundee Utd manager in the early 70's i think. Ian knows.
Jerry Fox is someone i maybe have made up...maybe i was thinking aboot Sam Fox when i type the article..i don't know.
another bullet for ye's
i think the selling of Petrov and Maloney, before that he was injured is the main cause of the woeful performances.
GS has not replaced them.
Phew! A lot to get through. Jerry Kerr was the manager in the 60s when United became established as a Div 1 team. His team beat Barcelona in the Fairs Cup (pre UEFA). I think George Fox was the chairman who worked hand in hand with Jim McLean.
(Bobby Cox was Dundee left back and captain when they won the league in 1962.)
It doesn`t make good reading, it`s all about having people on the pitch that will try to win the game. We want 20 shots at goal and 10 corners at least. That may not get goals but at least it`s not messing about by passing across the pitch. Next Saturday the moans from the stands could be a bit too much unless a good display is produced! I`ll have another look at 4.50 on Saturday but these 6 points won`t be easily won!
we don't seem to want to have a go. we have no one to grab the bull by the horns.
oor wide players should be getting corners, firing in crosses, getting at the back post etc. we lost that when Shaun left.
oor midfield lost a forward going presense when Stan left.
going oot of europe has seemed to have ended Lenny as a leader and he is a shadow of his former self.
thing is against the evil ones we created chance after chance by playing noo bad fitbaw.....Ugo's goal seems to have killed us as a force.
buckle doon and hard work is the answer. we must beleive in oor own ability
I suppose we have to approach the game remembering that 3 points were achieved last Saturday, thanks ICT! I`m sure that the fans on computers are much more reactionary and panicky than oor manager and players. I certainly hope so!
Three home matches and three away matches. Winning the first two seems like a good idea to me. :-)
The good ship FFS Telfer has sailed away! :-(
Farewell Telfmeister and good luck!
It`s been real!
Ah, well that's the Telf away - goes with our good wishes - decent player I reckon, teamed up well with Naka.
kevin, yes I phrased my PLG question badly -- what I meant was if the Waistcoat (for ex) was there at the start of the season and not PLG maybe the gap wouldn't be as much as it is (or was 3 weeks ago). So we've benefitted by not only them but also Hearts being in complete disarray and shooting themselves in the foot. I think that "benefit" is there in a number of points difference (which is impossible to quantify but there none the less).
All of which doesn't change the problem in hand - how to create a bundle of scoring chances and convert a decent percentage of those ?
I think we will struggle to do this unless the midfield get up to speed - pity that Sno is out cos he could have been a straight switch for Lenny. Now leaving Lenny out involves a bit of experimenting with TommyG and Jiri, which GS won't do at the stage. So we've got a bit of a stalemate.
Thanks Ian for the solution to the Kerr/Cox/Fox puzzler !
As the first to predict the signing of Telfer as soon as the Ginger dwarf's appointment was announced, let me say Cheers Paul. This year you were a gentleman and a true professional.
I think, last season he was at fault for a number of goals but this year, his positioning and experience at the back has been sorely missed since Willow came back after his last injury. His performances against milan were outstanding.
Saturday was a disgrace. As a Celtic fan I now can appreciate fully what it feels to be a Cov fan. Might work and live near there but never felt that the team I love would evger stoop to their level of a lack of commitment.
The point I made about WGS' 12 signings this year and not one being a definate starter, except Naylor, was wrong. I should have added Caldwell, not that he did anything majorly wrong on Saturday, but for him to get a game before an 'International' full back in JJPD is baffling.
I know that on the Celtic Underground site, there are rumours that WGS is for the off, the good feelings I had from making it into the last 16 of the CL, are easily outweighed by the turgid fare on offer by 'Team 2'.
Hell breaking out on CQN at present. really can't be bothered at posting now at all.
There's even people saaying I know more about football than you cos I played the game professionally. To that I give you Chris Waddle, anyone else hear his comments about England last week?
Also I really wish that someone would point out that Mouriniho, Wenger and Rafa (as far as I know)haven't played the game professionally or at any great level. I reckon they might know something about the game.
Baldy
BTW
With reference to this Villa article on CQN, don't want to post there, my Villa supporting mates seem OK with MON at present.
They realise that most of this team he inherited from O'Leary, he has spent money on only a few players so far (not a lot in value by EPL mid-table standards) and that this Summer will be the one to watch.
Maloney has recently had a couple of niggling injuries and an illness to deal with, hence why he hasn't started. Stan hasn't hit top form but then again, he is playing in a midfioeld that has McCann in it, who makes TG look composed. It's not as if MON has a lot of choice in that position either.
Anyway Hail hail one and all
Why they are even discussing what Vill are doing is beyond me. I only do cos I live down here and it's not as if I can discuss the merits of Lee Wilkie with most of my mates in the local.
Hi Baldy,
the way things are going I`ll be happy with 6 more points and go on my holidays but 3 weeks ago the team were well placed to beat Rangers and everything was hunky dory. So moods can change. We need to see players with strong resolve. Roy Aitken where are you? I`m sure I was tougher in those days too! :-)
I reread Kevin`s blog from the match. Just like the Motherwell match 11 games ago where the spirited comeback against Dundee United a few days before failed to inspire the Hoops. This match was followed by good wins against St Mirren and Hearts. What changed? Nothing other than Lennon being suspended.
What was the midfield in these games?
Hearts: Naka Gravesen Sno Jiri
St Mirren: Naka Gravesen Jiri Aiden
We have the players to improve the way the team is playing!
Motherwell are playing Kilmarnock tonight, was there not a freak scoreline the last time at Fir Park?
Stats from The Celtic View.
It looks that Caldwell will continue at RB, although a shot in Lennon`s position could be tried. JJPD may not be introduced but you never know.:-/
Did Hartley play behind Lennon? I noticed that comment on CQN. Couldn`t have!
I had a look at manutd.com to see the instuctions for fans going to Rome. It has good advice but it made me wonder why people want to follow their team in Europe. Just be happy that Celtic played in Milan.
It seems that the more southerly you go in Italy the nastier the people are but perhaps it`s a football thing. My Milan supporting friend wouldn`t go to Bari or Sicily, `bad town, bad people`.
CL is now just a TV show for us to follow. :-(
Posted something on here last night but it seems to have disappeared into cyberspace, which is probably just as well cos it was just the usual jibberish. I had just had a look at CQN, and I quickly retreated. But it got me thinking that the guy who wrote the song, got the words all wrong.
We DO care if we win lose or draw.
Sometimes too much.
And we certainly would be surprised if there was a show going on on Saturday - a laborious 2-1 grind is more likely.
Was the Celtic world a different place when the guys penned the words to that song?
Ian must know the date by heart :o)
When I first visited Celtic Park that song was on the go! Considering the results in the early 60s you may think Celtic fans were a tolerant bunch. Greeting faced more like! It`s in our blood! The world was a different place all right! My best posts have all disappeared into that same cyberspace!
As for Jerry Fox I`ve done some research and from www.mtv.com I found that one appeared in 3 films that were actually quite good according to the site.
1) Armed Response 1986(played a Club Owner)
2) Evil Spawn 1987 with David Carradine (Played Harry Fox)
3) Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, `they charge an arm and a leg` :-)1988 also with David Carradine (played Hermie)
Jerry was an actor into horror, action and comedy. I don`t know if you can get the DVDs, I`ll look at Amazon. (Yes, available on Amazon but not all for region 2)
I wonder what happened to him?
This is the equivalent of the CQN night shift!
Reserve League Champions 2006-7!
Well done the young Bhoys!
6 in a row for the reserves.
well done lhads!!!!!!!
Hollywood chainsaw hookers..magic.
Never seen any of those straight to Tv movies but will watch oot for them on Channel 5.
Sixtae...will reply in depth to your we do care to much comment later. I have been in a darkened room this week reading some of the sh*te on CQN.
Not that i'm anti CQN, anything but...but the beast has grown.
Anyway well done the reserves and i see the under 19 have regained the lead in their title quest as well.
All the more amazing considering most of that team are 16 and 17. the youth team.
Heard this morning that Spurs fans are not allowed to wear t-shirts or shorts in seville tomorrow. They have to wear shirts with collers. Some religous festival on. Nae beer either.
that and also the man who fans being told not to wander aboot in rome...happy holidays boys...enjoy yerselves:-)
This is the time of Semana Santa (Holy week) which is particularly big in Seville. It`s 21 deg C and sunny in Seville for the next two days according to BBC Weather. Not too big a hardship for the supporters. Can they drink vino de Jerez? Play away the Hotspurs. :-)
Brilliant for the reserves. You are right about the u19s, they are amazing when you consider the turnover.
A Man U fan was on the radio and said he headed to the `danger area`, Campo dei Fiori when he arrived in Rome. Rome 16 deg C and sunny and Glasgow 14 deg C and sunny! Sunny all over!
I sometimes contribute to CQN but it`s very rare for my comment to be mentioned, can`t be stirring them up.
Motherwell and Killie battled it last night in front of our boss. Their downfall is being planned right now! Come on the Bhoys!
Gs at fir park......probably watching James Fowler then.....;-)
Always fancied Rome, after being in Milano it's on the list now.
I spent a couple of days up the coast from seville a few years back, the spurs fans should do the same.
Thing is i canny remember why i was there that May.
talking about seville, does anyone still think this current team are better than the seville team or have we all sobered up yet?
henrik larsson from that team would give our full squad at the minute a good run to see who would score most goals.
think i said, i'm back tracking here, that the squad is more balanced ability wise but not as strong in some areas.
which oor goal tally this season proves.
I think that the Seville team was stronger but we never got our Lubo replacement. So this was the beginning of watching teeth being pulled. Not really the`Celtic Way`.
