The Lotw Diary- Wednesday
Do you know that a prominent, respected author named Kevin Sampson, whom works include the cracking story of Tranmere hoolies in the 80’s “Awaydays” and a story aboot a band, which sounds a bit like the Verve “Powder” started a campaign last year to re-claim the KOP.
It’s aim was to re-claim the Spion Kop and return it to traditional values. The breaking point for the author was a CL game when the fans were to busy singing aboot Man Yoo, asking the visitors who they were and asking if they could sing a song for them. He was annoyed that the KOP had been reduced to the Sky induced sub culture of the Murdoch inspired Sky generation Soccer- AM-itis.
Sounds depressingly familiar eh?
After last night I don’t think the guy has much to worry aboot. While the game was pish, the entertainment came in the tension and of course Jose getting papped oot on his arse, the Liverpool fans were immense from start to finish. So guid we maybe should give them YNWA back.
The Jungle Bhoys are trying to do the same thing at CP except I think politics and traditional values are hindering their quest. I mentioned there banner display on Sunday, failing due to apathy and late comers, that’s a viable excuse but the majority of the time some canny be arsed holding up the bit of card and the traditional value of the hoops support turning up 5 mins late is alive and well.
What hinders the Jungle Bhoys is the fact that at the revamped CP there is no longer a Jungle. The KOP is still there, the traditional meeting place is still alive, unlike CP where the traditional Jungle has been replaced wie heated seats and it’s no longer the back of yer legs being warmed by some bearded galout peshed on special brew relieving himself.
As usual the Celtic support have split into two factions. The JB’s have a foe in the Green Brigade whom seems more political in their choice of songs and mair witty and gloating in their banners. While CP will never be the same again, CL nights remind me that on oor night we can back the team as well as anyone in Europe.
Domestically we seem to pre-occupied by goading oor rivals, singing songs aboot hating r*ngers and seeing how far we can push authority by oor choice of ditties. It’s almost un-Celtic like. We should be backing oor team wie songs that inspire the current crop no matter how crap they have been playing.
At Ipox on Sunday instead of rubbing the bear’s noses in it, fun as it maybe, we should show the team that we are backing them and we are thankful that they are wearing the hoops. Forget the rebel and the folk songs- well not this land is your land as we can put that in context by saying it’s a song welcoming all nationalities in the Celtic team- sing Celtic songs that celebrate current and past players.
We could learn a lot from the Liverpool fans. Link is posted below to the reclaim the kop site.

There is a movement within football concerned with atmosphere, displays, banners, songs and rivalry.
I don`t necessarily feel part of that but I know a man who is. My Milan supporting friend Daniele.
Sometimes his blog has articles in English.

Ian- will post a link to the site hopefully.......
had a wee quick look some great links and stuff on there...
Was very impressed by the ref last night - he let them clatter each other for 120min - liked that :o)
Liverpool deserved to win obviously BUT ... but something still bothers me about the fact that they are in the second CHAMPIONS League final in recent times and they have never been near being champions of their domestic league in that time.
Bad enough having 3 EPL teams in the semis.
So who do I want to win tonight - not the auld red nosed bluenose, that's for sure.
That leaves Meelan, the team docked 30 points for their part in match fixing scandals. But they have Kaka - so I'll go for them.
I'll also go for them in the final mainly 'cos I think 5 big cup wins is plenty for LFC.
On a more important subject - is Majic retired now ? Every match day now he's wearing a suit and a big grin. Even if the pie man could probably beat him in a bleep test, I would still prefer him before Miller or Beats in the run in.

I agree, somewhat, with the piece. I've often posited the idea of a 'singers amnesty' for season ticket distribution to my friends. My understanding of human nature is that a lot of supporters would apply for something like that to be 'amongst it' as opposed to be 'a part of it' - And that is not Celtic's fault, that's our modern society as a whole. A case of getting what you want rather than what you deserve. Although the swathe of seats that becomes empty at halftime for matters social and hospitable can be depressing.
But then, speaking as an ex-smoker - I can readily remember me rushing out my seat at halftime to accomodate my 'fix' so who am I to snipe?
Deserving or Well intentioned does not compare fiscally to affordability.
Here's a couple of instances of the free market economy that tell me the Jungle Bhoys pilgrimage will be a wasted journey.
A social and fiscal aspirant I know, of whom I was a friend at one time, took me out to his car to show me the two DVD players he had had fitted to the headrests of his car. 'Watch this' he said as he pressed play for some or other visual bullcack. He caught me smirking and this made him ask why. I queried the logic in buying these things when the furthest he would travel, ever, in his car would be the centre of Glasgow -And then very rarely with both his kids in tow. He replies 'I know but they look good.'
A chap who's initials are DP sells cars in ML3. Very expensive cars too. Like those Bentley's with the sleek back end all the footballers are purchasing. He has been heard to state that he feels he started selling those cars too cheaply (Circa 140-160K) as every Tom, Dick and Harry has one. It lowers the prestige of ownership.
So it would seem that it's not always the number of bums on seats - maybe more a case of how rich the actual bum is.
4 things at £100 and 100 things at £4 amount to same on paper but for anything corporate the first looks the easier/shorter road to travel.
Football I'm glad to say (At this point in time) needs both of the above - the guys with big bucks and the guys with just bucks. But God help us if we end up with ticket prices a la Spurs etc.

That must be why I felt uneasy about Liverpool winning. At least Chelsea are the Champions for goodness sake!
Am I ruling them out of the league race in the EPL? Nope, not yet.
Great incentive for both Milan and M U tonight. They`ll fancy their chances against the Pool.
:-)
The jungle bhoys should have a rethink about displays at the JS stand. The Roy Kean one at the LL stand was the best for an ordinary league game! Also since I`m in the JS I can get a better view! :-)
I must mention that I`ve participated in every display at the JS stand. On Sunday about a dozen seats beside me were empty and I was able to see my white paper in the photos from the pitch because there were none nearby.
I didn`t throw the paper at fellow supporters either. Grown men chucking rolled up paper about. (tut tut):~/
Championees! SUFTC!
Baldy- from previous thread, I would also to see oor two igloo dwellers Barney has been on the bench recently so hopefully a wee run oot is due.
Now LFC are in the final, unless they are playing Milan I want them to win. As you said it’s a grudging respect for red face but another Cl trophy for him and the press to crow aboot….no thanks.
Six- yer right but the competition is set up that way. Maybe the new UEFA president will change the rules but then we widnae have had that great final of two years ago.
Majic, I heard GS saying that he husnae had a break for aboot 3 seasons now and maybe that is playing on his injury. I don’t expect to see him again this season. That means he will play on Saturday then.
Ulyesses- Love the two stories. DVD’s in the back of cars…what is that aboot. We have a beautiful country plenty to see oot the windae.
Anyway, at the semi final recently all oor bus sat together and we created a wee bit of atmosphere in the north enclosure. We spoke at length on the way home aboot getting books together next season, CP make this very difficult to do unless you join the Jungle Bhoys.
Yer amongst but no part off rings very true.
Ian- did you hold up yer card? Ha ha, yes get them up ma end next season when it’s the family enclosure all the weans will hold them up.
Fancy Meelan tonight.
Lads have a look on the link to Ian’s pals site and find the article aboot Hillsborough.
Justice for the 96.
Anyway, just bought this months 4-4-2 it has Ceaser on the front lifting the European Cup. That’s ma reading material for tomorrow during the expected lulls while working at the elections, purely professional not political, which means nae diary and nae comments until Friday.
Naka and GS in double shocker !
Press men fail to coordinate their votes and Celtic duo snatch Scotch writer's prize !
A double-double shocker in fact, cos they already did they same when peers' votes failed to recognize Wattie & Boyd's talents.
Always expect the unexpected, glasshopper !!!

I thought wally and fergie were stick ons. I mean one has won the mini league since xmas and the other got that guid for nothing Jonny Foreigner oot of the pox and returned the keys to the people.
Maybe the press thought it would be too obvious and we will need to wait for the tub thumping on-slaught if the dirties make it two in a row on Saturday, which there is a very guid chance of…..:-(
Hard to believe but they ARE the form team and have been for a while. Meanwhile we have been grim.
Maybe "form team" is a bit strong, maybe "less grim" would be more accurate.
But we haven't mentioned the fact that they haven't ACTUALLY secured the second spot yet.
Make them sweat while it's still mathematically possible that the sheep could sneak it.
Depending on how top6 results pan out, they could could be under a fair bit of pressure in the remaining games.
If we mollicate them on Saturday (one-nothing would do fine), then the following weekend against the sheep we could field a "we don't care if we don't pick up any points here, by the way" type team.
Team would consist of folk like Brown in goals, Miller, Beats, Frosty and the Igloo Bhoys, JoeD, Hartley and Pressley.
What I would love to see is them having to go to Pittodrie on the last day of the season still needing a point: squeaky derry-ere time.
Don't think it will come to that (maybe about a 0.1% chance) but we live in hope.
Maldnini cotton-wooled for the final?
:o)
What are you guys like? We are Celtic!
Whatever happens we can handle it. :-)
Much of the zip in the Celtic side was left on the turf in Milan. I think it will be interesting to see how Man U respond remebering that 4 points will be enough for them, or one win against Chelsea would do it too.
Arsene Wenger said earlier this week that it difficult for teams to lift themselves after a European disappointment.
Caldwell, Riordan and Gravesen back for Saturday?
Happy enough with last night's result, so I'm now backing Meelan to win it - I've just this thing gnawing at the back of my mind about: should they have been in it in the first place, involvement in match fixing, 30pt deducted, ...
But, always a joy to see Kaka.
As for the lineup for Saturday - I've kinda given up trying to predict. All I hope is that he doesn't give any more games to guys who aren't going to be with us next season.
Although with Lenny certain to play, that hope is scuppered & we're back to square one.
Still, the good thing with the Cup final still to come is that there are still places up for grabs - surely that must be an incentive to make an impact in the remaining games?
Time to tear a few holes in the cardigan.

UEFA give the Uglies license to do their worst.
Token fine.
Disappointed? Yes
Surprised? Yes, a bit, to be honest.
They'll be giving it big licks on Saturday, knowing the UEFA mob can't be bothered.
You've missed a real chance to win a bit of credibility, Mr Platini.
UEFA have missed a trick but the bottomline is we know the truth and the dirties know the truth hence their document, which was in writing before the game in Spain. They knew there was going to be trouble. They knew the ICF were travelling.
A fecking cover up……
