THE LOTW DIARY- Saturday

The news that GIFC have suspended all Italian Fitbaw for the forseeable future is a worrying development. They have taken this action due to crowd trouble at the Sicilian derby between Catania and Palermo. The heidie of the GIFC says

"One day is not sufficient," Pancalli added after proceeding with his threat. "Without drastic measures, we cannot play again.
"We will immediately set up a commission to discuss the situation between sport and politics. It's not possible to carry on like this."

So if we have to wait on Italian justice we could be in for a long wait. Sure a death at a fitbaw match is always tragic but- only recently a PSG fan died - is it worth punishing all clubs? Now the game was between local rivals playing each other in the top flight and also that part of Italian is not renowned for it's, peace loving, easy going locals is it? Yer more likely to get a horses heid in yer bed than a warm welcome.

Does Italian fitbaw really have such a problem wie fitbaw related violence that all games from the top to the bottom have to be banned. Sure in Italy the violence has more to do wie political views- see Palermo and Lazio- and fitbaw is the vehicle that attracts the masses so that is used. But is the problem any worse that German, Dutch, English or Polish?

Now the Rossoneri fans have not got a history of trouble. Unsure of any political leanings they may have but there has been bother at International matches in recent years in the san siro. Heavy handed action like the one taken FIGC just take small problems and fire them onto a grander scale.

The ban won't last, as money talks and uefa will get involved. I fully expect oor game against Ac to go ahead but any chance of us getting more tickets, or being allowed freely to mingle wie the Ac fans in the home end may have just be compromised.

A wee hoop on loan in Greenock is looking forward to proving himself to GS. Paul McGowan aka Gowser has impressed at the Ton and recently signed a new deal wie the hoops. The boy says

"I've learned a lot coming here and earned myself a new two-year contract at Celtic. Playing against top teams like Motherwell and Kilmarnock is experience I couldn't have got playing at Celtic reserves.

Good luck today wee man, as it's yer duty to beat Motherwell as we don't really like them.

Now, Gowser might find himself winging back to the homeland as Aiden McGeady now is injured, Craig Beattie is always injured, Magic is in the huff and Kenny Miller is, well , just Kenny.

With Livingston tomorrow and Clyde still fresh in oor collective minds GS says.....

"There were some good players involved in the Clyde game, by the way: Neil Lennon, Roy Keane and John Hartson. So the warning is there for us."
"It wasn't a good time, but as I said immediately after that game, all we could do to make ourselves feel better was get good results. Since then, we have put a lot of results together to make us feel a bit better about ourselves."

By the sounds of it i would expect a strong line up. I also think he is expecting one of the injured strikers to return. Canny see another Clyde but..with a new defender making his debut and again it being live on Sky its kinda a groundhog day feeling.

Hope not,

Forza the Hoops who need to be over cautious tomorrow and play a strong team...... or whoever is fit

Interesring events in Italy, unfortunately caused by a tragic event. I have friends in central Italy whose only involvement with football is on TV or at school level. They wouldn`t go to a game because of the Ultras. My friend in Milan was part of the Fossa dei Leoni fans group but they were dramatically disbanded at the point of a gun over a year ago. Civil war!
Back to the beautiful game (darts?). Is McGeady injured? Hopefully it`s minor and Beatts hasn`t actually pulled or torn the hammy, he just felt it a bit.
St Johnstone in midweek + Clyde last year = a strong Celtic team!
Come on the Celts! If you are listening on Radio Scotland today be ready to use FM, there is rugby on at that time.

You can still see the final notice from the Fossa dei Leoni on www.fdl.it if you can capisci Italiano molto bene.
The FDL would deal with tickets for members and even nogotiated with other clubs to set prices for away games. A small club who wanted to charge 30 euros ended up selling tickets at 2 for 20 euros!
Sounds like an effective pressure group! How come they were disbanded? It seems that criminal/political groups see value in controlling the`curve`
Theme for a book?
I am not up to date with the fan groups at Milan just now, thank goodness! :-)
Be assured Milan will have a large and very loud support in Milan. The away support is not known for violence and may even have affinity with Celtic with the shared singing of YNWA.
Who are R*ngers playing today? :-))))

Fawkirks bairns iv spoke to say it was no suprise to them the defeat. Mrs G drove past the Fawkirk stadium yesterday at 4.20, said she thought the game had finished early due to the amount of traffic streaming oot the car park:-)

A result today leaves us wie probably only Hibs or Motherwell to worry aboot.....

Watched the highlights last night the ton had a few chances.

Nice to see GS their wie his wife and him being an old romantic by buying her a pie....and ma wife thinks she is hard done by.....

day off rest today......

Anyway, was visiting ma cousin last night and while the wifes were in the living room swalling wine and watching VH1 we were in the dining area talking aboot fitbaw.

it was hits from the nineties on the telly when d-ream "thing's can only get better" came on.

MrsG turns round and says that reminded her of the 1994 Coca Cola cup final as that song was number one at the time.

Does she know nothing aboot karma? We are playing a 1st divison mob in the cup and she is talking aboot OOR worst moment- well one of them- history!!!!

Still never seen the pens from that game...hopefully never will.

I remember- vaguly- dancing to that song later on that night in a drunken state in a nightclub i have long since stopped frequenting.

The conversation from then lead onto the Scottish Cup Final of the same season.

1st trophy is 6 years but in what now looking back was the one of the worst scottish cup final's in history.

As ma cousin said i canny believe we celebrated winning that game....

I said yes you can as we are ALWAYS UP FOR THE CUP.....

FORZA THE HOOPS

(The battle to be the 8 ball!)*

Have you ever actually seen the often mentioned `potential banana skin`? I didn`t think so. Well apart from being terrible grammar it does point out that cup matches against teams from a lower division are often difficult. It doesn`t matter how much the players are warned!
It may be a good idea to play as many survivors from the Clyde game as is possible. How many are there?
Boruc, Telfer, McManus, Nakamura, Zurawski(sub) and Lennon. McGeady, a sub, is injured. What has happened to Wallace, Du Wie, Keane, Hartson, Maloney, Pearson?
Half the team has left the country!!!
Oh aye, I was there and I was thinking of going today but the introduction of Mr Sky and the 1 o`clock kick off had me thinking back to that frosty day 13 months ago! >-(

(*Whoever wins will be ball No 8 in the draw today. Hibs will be 7 and I think Motherwell are No1. Very strange!)

Some reward! Away to ICT, not exactly ideal but they`ll be worrying more than the Bhoys.
For me it means more radio hell, just a week after Pittodrie.
Keep calm, keep calm!
