The LOTW Diary

Italia on the Ultra Defensive

The ultras of Italy are running scared if the GIFC are to be believed. Looking at the measures to reduce fighting at the fitbaw it’s more in-likely corrupt Local Authority figures who have been issuing safety certificates for years that should be more worried.

Looks like there pension funds will no longer be topped up by Italian club officials. The heidie of the GIFC says

"We will not allow fans to go into a stadium that does not respect the current safety norms," said interior minister Giuliano Amato.
"In stadia like that of Catania I will not admit anyone, I am firm on this. That game shouldn't have been played.
"Hence, only those stadia that meet the security norms will reopen to the fans, the other stadia will be used to play in but without fans until they meet guidelines."

Now for us, the Milano hoops, it’s scary that the San Siro doesn’t meet safety standards. In fact it’s scary that only 5 grounds in the whole of Italy do. Now reports suggest that the San Siro only needs a lick of paint to meet the requirements but it begs the question how decrepitated are the other stadiums?

Reading reports, some don’t have turnstiles, CCTV is very rare and the clubs take no control over ticket allocation. Also pay on the day gates are commonplace for large volatile games due to the fact that nae bugger goes to the games.

Massive TV deals mean that attendances have been dropping in serie A but that’s no excuse for club officials and local authorities for letting the stadia seep into disrepair. Most stadia are now of early 80’s standard here and according to the ger at ma work Livorno’s stadia was worse than the old Broomfield.

Now while improving the stadia is a start it won’t eradicate the problem. Germany has safe grounds but massive club hooligan problems. England and Scotland while trouble is rare in grounds toon centres up and doon the land still have trouble wie casuals.

Making the stadia safer will help the Italian game as more people will return to games but the problem won’t go away. It will just move elsewhere. The already organised Ultras will find ways to out fox the polis. Bringing Italia stadia into the 21st century is a start but bringing political views and local differences into the 21st century is something Europe has failed to do.

So why should Italia be any different?

Aiden Fients, Dummies and Signs

Enough of those pesky Ultras. Aiden has signed a new contract wie the bhoys who have acted quickly to heid of at the pass another Shaun the Aston Celtic subby situation.
Frainkie MacAvennies love child said

I’m delighted to agree this new contract with Celtic and commit my future to the club.

"I’ve enjoyed my time immensely with Celtic so far and I’m now looking forward very much to the future and the challenges that lie ahead.”

Love players wie Aiden’s ability. He is the most natural talent we have produced since McStay. He still has a lot to learn but he has progressed leaps and bounds under GS. Trips to the gym seem to part of his training routine and this beefing up has lead to him being a more disciplined player. He has chipped in this season wie a few goals and also a few match winning performances.

Now, him and the Deek may be used as a tag team from now to the end of the season. One starts wears the team doon, then the other comes on and finishes the joab. Two guys with their ability vying for the one spot is great for the club.

Naka, Naka, Naka or Lubo?

But Aiden is not the most creative talent at the club. Naka, Naka oh Naka. After a virtuoso performance at the weekend, when he makes playing fitbaw look so easy and a joy to watch, again the commentators who said he was a luxury, lightweight and one who would disappear when the going got tough got there collective microphones rammed up their arses.

His performance against Livi followed a performance against Dundee Utd a few weeks back which was up there with anything I have seen at CP. He is born to play in the CL as nights like Man U have proved. But a question remains….

Is he better than Lubo?

Lubo maybe never scaled the heights in Europe apart from a master class against Juve when even the Juve fans- and players- applauded him of the park, as Naka has but domestically he has done something Naka hasn’t done yet.

He was a collective pain in R*ngers arse. For the seasons he was here he kept his best for them. The 3-0 at Ibrox with the outrageous dummy in the box then a divine finish. The 5-1 game also. He stepped up to the plate in the heat of the glesga derby. He was also reliable in big games domestically

Something Naka still has to do. Games against Hearts and R*ngers, Naka has sometimes been found wanting. He sometimes disappears in the kick and rush nature of these games. When grabs one of these games by the scruff of the neck then the genius of Nakamura will rank as better than Lubo.

Hopefully he will be around long enough to make me eat may words……

Forza the hoops who are not checking their travel insurance just yet for a refund on plane tickets to Milano

Sorry, Kevin I see that you had mentioned it but I had been out for a while and spotted the news on Celticfc.net
Yes in Italy policing and stewarding at games was done by the same Ultras who told the clubs what they could charge and handled the ticket sales too. It`s become a business thing, ironic if it should be eventually changed by random disorder considering the calculating way that they organise the curves.
Enough of that headache stuff. Who will score the goals for the Bhoys on Saturday?

Sorry I was interrupted and had meant to say, `what have the ultras ever done for us?`
AC Milan CL ticket price for season ticket holders on the curve= 15 euros.
Celtic CL ticket for punters= £35.
Fan power is not a bad idea if done with responsibility in mind.

The non "violent" ultra's ian will have a say in what is going to happen.

Too many people will have too many fingers in the money pie not to take an interest in these changes or try to ignore them.

As the saying goes keep yer friends close but yer enemies closer:-)

Reckon club registered supporters groups will be the way round it. Club sells it's tickets to the registered group who at the start of the season send the club a list of members.

The ultras still get the tickets and distribute them as they wish.

As long as there is no trouble in stadiums then clubs can't be held accountable.

Question....what area is a no go in the san siro for travelling hoops who might have to buy tickets for the home end?

Fan power is interesting concept one that the Jungle boys and the green brigade had great ideas about but failed to capture a mass audience.

The ultra concept won't work here as the fan power lies wie the Affilation and the Assoc. In these you have the major players who also run the biggest supporters clubs.

Even then their power is only in distributing tickets not setting prices.

Have Celtic ever spoke to any of us about ticket prices?

Judging by the attendances at CP this season they should....

Goals? Deek oor Deek to get one over his old team....

I would reckon that the Blue end, to the right as you watch TV would be the least appealing to go to.
You may get away with the Orange stand near to where it meets the green end. The away supporters will be in the green stand. The main stand,(the red stand) will be the most expensive.
Maybe the Celtic Supporters Assoc should start to tell the other clubs what they can charge when we travel away.
The theory is, don`t buy away tickets but turn up at the stadium 2 hours before kick off and offer to pay 50% of the original price.:-)

Unsure if Celtic will get the whole green end. Think we will be in the corner next to the main stand.

Might look at the main stand prices.....

Aye, been saying for years we should stop taking away tickets. LOL just had a vision of a few thousand hoops turning up at swinecastle and arguing wie the rock steady stewards.

"i'll gie ye 10 bob and a bottle aw ginger fer the ticket, mate..."

It`s just the top tier at the green end that the Bhoys will be offered. I think that the seats below are used by the too young and too skint to be an Ultra, fans.
Maybe Hearts fans should try this policy for the next trip to Leith! :-)

haha thats wot they all say.

regarding naka and lubo, i think they are/were both great players but if i had to pick one or the other i would have to go for lubo.

he had more skill, was the most two footed player i have ever seen and remember we only really saw him week in week out at the tail end of his career.

naka is great though and seems to be improving all the time.

wot is happening with milan?

Really looking forward to the Hibs game but has anybody any news about the team situation for Saturday?

With big Jan suspended for having the cheek to score a winning goal, and Deek struggling with a calf injury - who's fit to play up front?

Beats played last night (surprise for me that one as I thought he was knacked), so he could be a starter alongside Majic or Miller or dare I say it JJ.

I would definately play Hartley, so for me TG will start on the bench, cos NL is a permanent fixture when not suspended (could be subbed though like last week & that could become a regular feature in the coming months).

At the back I think we've got to persevere with Mick and DoD with a view to the CL match. Also Joe Doumbe must surely get a run out.

Feel sorry about all the Tic fans organized for the Milan game - a lot of folk could lose a bit of cash. If it's played elesewhere I would love to see it in Paris - Parc de Princes (not Stade de France, too big and open) - within striking distance distance for me.

I think that Milan should try to play in the Stadio dell`Alpi in Turin but the response from Italy has been a disgrace!
if the stadiums are not fit for purpose how come UEFA have used the San Siro for finals?
Also we have to ask why Athens is to be used for this year`s CL final, Greek Ultras are worse! What about Istanbul being used a couple of years ago. Uefa are as big a joke as the Italians!
As for the prices for this year`s final, 80, 140 and 200 Euros with extra for postage. Football fans are being fleeced, I think I`ll start my own Ultras!
The Rantmeister returns! Hail Hail!
