The LOTW Diary- What The Hell Do We Care?

In this week where any blogger worth his salt would struggle to write new things aboot hoops that already husnae been said. Right we play the well, we need a victory, and we want changes coz the team have been playing ten palefull oh pesh and it’s getting us jittery.

We have discussed it here. We have discussed it there. We have discussed it every bloody where.

Two comments from two LOTW stalwarts got me thinking and after a week reading the rubbish being spouted on other blogs, sites and message boards the question needs answered.

Do we only care now if we win?

The famous song, sung wie gusto all over the land for years, in time of trouble and joy had the infamous line “We don’t care if we win, lose or draw” nowadays the post MON generation only seem to care aboot winning. Even some pre MON seem to have their heids turned by the winning being the be all and end all.

Maybe years of watching oor less illustrious neighbours winning all in-sundry and them basing their history and heritage of being the most successful fitbaw club in the world has meant some only want to catch them up.

For me this is forgetting what Celtic is aboot. Celtic has a heritage, ethos and style, which is unique in world fitbaw. Something that seems to have been missed.

Every so often this week I have seen posts that back ma view of why I have doubts aboot oor manager. Let me make this clear while I fully support oor manager and the players it seems the questioning of them gets meet wie the success card.

13 clear, last 16 of CL and semi final of Scottish Cup. The players and management have delivered so we are told. Any other debate and yer not a Celtic man. It has been mentioned that we as a support are greeting faced buggers.

True, how many websites churning oot views are there aboot the hoops. Every blog thinks it's opinion should be heard. I shamelessly admit this blog was created solely to see if anyone shared the views of me. Certain other sites didnae meet ma expectations and any views outwith the party line were not tolerated and the abuse was personal. I wanted an alternative so LOTW was born.

This is not the fault of the blog creators. The Celtic support has always been split, fractioned and at each other throats. Look at when we were trying to sack the board, look at the fact we have an affiliation and association of supporter clubs, look at how many fanzines we have. How many supporters club do you know that have formed through bickering and fighting out of others?

It’s because we care aboot oor club. Maybe the motives are different but we all just want what is best for the club. That’s oor goal.

The Internet has been guid for the Celtic support, we all canny get enough of it, but it also gives a false impression. The reason being, I’m typing this and most that read it won’t know me if I went past them in the street. We don’t know the majority of people we speak wie and some of these fans could charlatans on the wind up.

Only face-to-face can we get a true impression of how the support is feeling. Not from message boards or phone ins. Saturday, as the support was getting frustrated and tension was rising the overwhelming feeling was we wanted the baw on the deck and attacking fitbaw. We wanted a performance befitting the wearing o the hoops.

Something we huvnae been getting.

Yes, if us following the Celtic ethos means we lose games, drop points here and there so be it. That’s fitbaw the best teams sometimes don’t always win. If on Saturday the result had been the same but we had played well we widnae have got the reaction we have over the last few weeks.

Against r*ngers oor 1st half performance made defeat a bit easier to take as we knew that we had outplayed playing Celtic fitbaw. Fawkirk nae performance.

On Saturday we just want to see a performance of fitbaw we were promised by the management and also that is in keeping wie the Celtic way. If after 90 mins we come oot after a performance that meets those criteria then we won’t care if we have won, lost or drawn.

It’s up to the manager to have the baws to take that criteria and make sure it happens.

Forza the hoops

Podium ?

Stange that the draw away against DUnt felt worse than defeat at home against the Uglies.

Difference, as you point out, was due to the quality of the "show" (or performance) on offer.
In much the same way, defeat in Milan was generally well accepted, the general feeling was that we had aquitted ourselves well against a superior outfit.

I remember even the great Lions team sometimes failed to put teams away. But at least, you could be sure that there would be chances, corners & action galore ("we annihilated them wan each" was a phrase heard from time to time).

Next Saturday, however, I think even if we put in the performance of the season but for one reason or another (keeper playing out his skin, nae paint left on the woodwork, ref even worse that usual) it ended up 0-1, there won't be mobs in the car park yet, but it won't be far off it.

Black Sunday has a lot to answer for...

For me part of the thrill is seeing the green and white hoops running out at the start. That never fails to lift me. :-)
Seeing change kits is always an anti climax. :-(
Celtic have always had the unruly type of individualist. Di Canio fitted in fine! McGeady needs to take the odd flakey!
I suppose that`s what is disappointing about Celtic getting by without turning it on. In previous eras you always got entertainment at Celtic Park. a good while ago I was going to strange games in the lower divisions so that I could go to all the league grounds in Scotland. A friend asked me why I was doing it and he reminded me that you always get value for money watching Celtic but I was wasting my money going to Stranraer and Montrose and the like. He was right!
GS in the Celtic View admits to getting the tactics wrong v Dundee United although they coped better with counter attacks in the 2nd half. On Saturday, it`ll be Celtic playing the usual game, hopefully that will bring rewards!

Was reading the DC Utd blog- on the links- and they have recently lost in the American CL. Thing is their comments are very similar when we lost to Milan. Thing is as well they feel they should now charge on and win their domestic fare.

If on Saturday that does happen I think I would be happy enough to accept that the two wins would come if we continued that level of performance. I remember the game against the well in MON 1st season when we were desperate to win the league at home.

We had to beat them to keep that on track and the flying loyalist pig was having a blinder. It took a fantastic free kick from Lubo to keep that dream alive.

Anyway even the most dodgy performances this year that have yielded late goals I have accepted as the Celtic way. Fact that we had attack minded players caused these victories and the spirit of not settling for a draw.

We can moan which we do but it is my belief that a better manager would have coaxed a run of decent celtic style performances from the group of players at his disposal. While GS if he wins the league and cup deserves the credit and this will afford him another crack at season 3 I really hope he is looking at his own performance in signings and tactics and ticking the box must do better.

If not then we are in bother…..

Last night's events:

1) Put into a bit more persective (if it was needed) the fine behaviour of the Celtic in a similar situation in Milan and, it must be said, the Scots fans in Bari.

2) How will UEFA react to this ? Two major clubs from two of the big league involved. A chance to really crack down and show they mean business ? You never know - a pig once flew !
Wouldn't bet on it though.
We should get a better idea of their attitude and the first chance for Platini to stamp his authority when the Huns behavior comes up for scrutiny.
But then again they are a minor team from a wee league.

Apart from the "events" both games last night were good to watch, although now that we aren't involved my interest has waned.
Roll on Saturday for a "Show" !

While Kevin is playing `zoom...zoom..`
Any changes expected tomorrow? i expect that Zurawski will swap with Beattie and start the game. The important thing in my opinion is that the game is played at a good tempo with plenty of attempts at goal.
Can you see any midfield or defensive changes, what about Gravesen, Jarosik and Riordan? More bench time?

Jarosik is injured but Mark Wilson is back in contention.

I would like to see this:

- Boruc -

Wilson - O'Dea - Caldwell - Naylor

Hartley - Gravesen - Aiden

- Naka -

JVOH - Majic

Subs: Deeks, Pressley, Miller, goalie, 2 youngsters.

But I know what we'll get!
As long as there's 3points and a bit of a Show, I'll be happy.

Joyeuse Pâques !

I think it was Bob Paisley who said that your old players should be playing for OTHER teams!
I think there are a few candidates, especially for next season!

I think Motherwell had more shots and corners than Celtic although at least 4 of the Motherwell corners were awarded through invention or ignoring blatant fouls. Not enough energy, Celts. I saw some posts that had Lennon as MOTM but this was a game we had to win not footer about with bouncy passes at the back!
Obviously the pressure was telling, now that it`s so close we may see a more relaxed `tic.
An introduction of fresh legs wouldn`t be so bad. I`d like to see Mick, Wilson and Gravesen in for the cup game.

I hate the way we are playing.

However i wouldn't swap it for entertaining, losing fitba.

Is it too much to ask for a side that is attractive to watch and win's?
