The Lotw Diary- Friday
The day after the day before. A day after working in the middle of the range rover, 4x4 to take the weans to school belt, where plus four and golf trous are the leisure wear off the popular, old retired sergeant majors, ex polis and school teachers and worst of all posh students I have come to the conclusion the world has gone mad. Dumb down, defo anyway but no matter the brains ye canny buy common sense.
The last line can relate to the twats in UEFA who, again, missed a trick to punish the wrong doers. Are they really serious in their fight against offensive chanting and racism or are they just given it air time while air brushing it under the carpet? Anyway the ruling means the SFA and the SPL can let them away wie murder now and any noises made will be as valid as a local council ballot paper.
Tomorrow, we enter the home of the bigoted. A place that thrives on hate. If you take the hate away you are left wie nothing. You lose the heritage of the institution and yer left wie a rudderless beast. A place were ma offered ticket was quickly turned doon as I don’t need to go there. I don’t want to gie them £33.00 to fund their fun and games. In fact, it’s the 1st time that I have turned doon a ticket since i took the vow, lapsed the next time we played them, that I would never return. I don’t feel the need.
Is it because it’s a meaningless fixture? In ma time unfortunately I have been to many meaningless gelsga derbies. Early 90’s every one from Jan, or sometimes earlier, was meaningless. Thing is the Hoops used to make a habit of winning the meaningless and giving us false hope for the following season.
I remember on such game at Hampden when we humped the fabled greatest r*ngers team ever 3-0 wie goals from Paul Byrne and Rudi Vata. Met Frank Bruno that day who looked strange in a bright pink British Knights shellsuit. Did we take any hope from that game? Of course we did. Any port in the storm we took as a marker for the following season. But it didnae happen. On Saturday we will hear aboot markers and pointers but the fact of the matter is both teams won’t resemble the 11 that run oot tomorrow.
So how can you get a marker when the teams playing won’t be the same next year? R*nkers will sink further into Scotland B territory and hopefully the Hoops will replace Petrov, Maloney and Hartson. If we do that then I’m confident NO ONE will get near us again domestically.
So is there more at stake for them than us. Yes. As they retreat back to traditions of thuggery they will see this as a chance to play a Hoop team wie the eye off the baw looking at a wee date in May. Expect crunching illegal tackles, unpunished like sectarianism in Europe, to be the order of the day, as the Hoops might not fancy getting injured or suspended.
No derby game is meaning-less and I would love nothing more than the Hoops to have been fired up this week, training buzzing and Lenny cajoling his team-mates to give him one last hurrah at the place he has had so many hurrahs. Fact is I can’t see it happening. Yes, at 12.30 tomorrow I will want to see them flying into challenges and hammering home their superiority for this season. So lets put the tail between the legs of the dogs so called revival for this season but don't be suprised if we don't.

A fair rallying cry, get stuck in but keep the heid and watch yer legs! :-)
My last game at Ibrox (I have been in for every ticket since then) was March 2000 when the Bhoys lost 4-0. What was the score the next time we played them? Er, 6-2!
This game is meaningless but a must win for all Hoops fans! :-)
Ian-was at that game. what a sad day that was. not as bad as the time we applauded Ian Wright off the park, right enough...
I fully expect that if the going gets tough the bhoys will just leave it..not enough at stake.
I also expect Lenny maybe to get in trouble......
Don't agree that the game is meaningless - don't forget they could still blow their CL place.
A bad result for them tomorrow and they'll be under pressure for the remaining games. And when you've got must-win games, anything could happen.
So much for them, but cup final places are still up for grabs. Surely the incentive is there to turn in a good performance and catch the manager's eye.
Somebody like young Deek. Hat trick tomorrow and he would be in my team for the final :o)
Seriously, I would love to see the likes of him and Aiden let loose a bit. They, like a few others, seem to be having their talent, or spontaneity, or gallusness, or whatever you call it coached out of them.
If the team does loosen up a bit and play as if they actually enjoyed themselves, I think we could see a scoreline of 3-0.
In saying that it will probably be 1-2.
On the other hand, a 1-1 is possible...
Only a fool would predict where angels fear to tread.
I even hated going there for semi-finals and finals when Hampden was being "renovated". I've never been to a derby match there and have no desire to go to one either.
I remember after a semi-final against Dundee Utd walking out of the place and some old dear in her 60s was hanging out her window screaming abuse at us - "You Fenian Bs shouldn't even be allowed to walk on the Copland Road. It's a Protestant road!"
I shouted back that I was exercising my democratic right to walk the Queen's highways.
As for Saturday I'd love another "league won pressure off" 3-0 humping like we gave them in 2001 but I could easily see them reducing it to a kicking match and us deciding not to get involved.
Martinobhoy,
fair play to you and you`ve made me decide never to go there either!
Well if I haven`t had a ticket for 7 years that won`t be difficult to do. :-)
I agree with you about the game, perhaps the ref and Walter are already planning the kickfest.
Talking about refs, thank goodness that lunatic Brines hasn`t been given the cup final.
Six- meaningless in the big picture for us, as really do we really care if they finish second, third or fourth?
Yes, deek running at their creaking backline is something I want to see. Humping high baws to JVOH I don’t.
I don’t think any performances from now until the end of the season will sway GS mind wie regards to the cup final.
If we win at the pox tomorrow I hope we ARE GALLUS aboot it and not sneak a 1-0, though that would be welcome:-)
Where angels fear to tread? I would rather go where angels play.
Martinobhoy- I have never walked on the queens highway only local authority owned and maintained ones:-)
Ah, 3-0..the Lubo show, happy days……
The h*ns quest to rediscover their roots started at CP when fat Adam had 3 bookable challenges in the 1st 5 mins. I expect more.
Ian- who is the cup final ref and the one for tomorrow?
Kenny Clark for the final and I don`t know who it is tomorrow but he`s bound to allow hammer throwing from the opposition.
Did I say that Brines is a lunatic? :-)
Brines is a Lunatic. In fact he is a disgrace to guid lunatics the world over.....
Celtic are a funny team/club. Sometimes they astound us and take us to heaven on earth. Other times it`s as if they have never played before. I remember games where the fans would just know that it was one of those days and drift away. Then Jock Stein arrived. He made Celtic win when things weren`t going well. The team can still manage that.
Going to Ibrox always takes Celtic supporters and players to the brink of glory or frustration. Injustice and Ibrox are linked for Celtic and the supporters. That`s why we`re paranoid!
Let`s hope that the Bhoys will be leaving that unwelcoming place today with a contented feeling.
Come on the Bhoys!

Well that didn`t go too well did it. The blogs will be busy!
have a good holiday weekend if you can!
I am disappointed with MYSELF.
I am disappointed that I let CFC take up such an important part of my life.
I am a relatively resposible, intelligent, educated, travelled and I might even say - having grown up I a shitty Glasgow environment - "street-wise" 50-odd year Scot living in a "nice" place abroad.
Why do I let CFC disturb my life?
Primo - it's in my genes.
Secondo - I, like anybody else, wants to wallow a bit in what ienjoyed once upon atime: the history, the Lisbon thing, the players, the games, the atmosphere, ...
Tierco - I love the beautiful game.
Don't get me wrong, I can take defeat. I've seen plenty since 1962. What I can't take is what I witnessed today.
I am disappointed with myself for letting myself get carried along with a lot of the hype.
This team has won the league - that is a statistic.
The present team, in fact the team for the last 3 or 4 seasons, has lost it as far as I'm corncerned.
The silverware and the odd high but in general, despite the much lauded financial advantage over the "others", this NOT what I want to see.
Ironically as I write, I have one eye on PSG v Lyon. Great game of football - what noise & color in the stadium. PSG leading 1-0 as I write. Meaningless game but what entertainment!
Maybe we can sign that PSG manager: his team are playing great football- what's his name ?
Paul LeGuen.
I am still disappointed with MYSELF but WTF its in my genes.
Sixtae,
I read out your post to my wife and she said, `that poor man!`
have a good evening and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Keep the Faith :-)
Well that wasn`t a great sleep!
Are Celtic as good as they were last season?
Left or unavailable Telfer, Wilson, Balde, Petrov, Keane, Zurawski, Hartson and Maloney. that`s quite a few! Remember how difficult it was for Martin after his 1st year to find players to slot in to the team.
I think that it wouldn`t do any harm to field a much changed team next week. Anything that may help to get the team ready for the cup final must be tried.
All teams have bad spells and they don`t last forever, do they? :-(
I have been reading the comments on CQN and I have started to hum, `always look on the bright side of life.......`
Ian/kevin I was at Snake Mountain, that day too.
Saturday was an embarrassment but what do you do. As much as I don't rate Strachan really and been consistent with my views on him, who else is there on the market that would be an improvement.
But to say that Saturday was an experiment just amazes me. Even the guys who do Sky's Brainiac show don't repeat the same useless experiments time and time again.
Still chin up
test
saturday was a shocker lads.
i hate the one up front thing, how many times has it worked for us?
i believe only very occasionally in europe for example should we start a game with one upfront but not in the spl.
we are up against a poor rangers team with two old 6ft plus centre halfs who aren't great on the deck and what do we do, we play right into there hands with countless long balls to our lone frontman to get battered about.
will answer in full later but we are worse than last season we have lost the goals and the ability to create.
I heard the GS interview on radio clyde and Peter Martin was suggesting things like midfielders who can tackle create and set the tempo. Paul Mcstay was mentioned. The manager was happy to go along with that. Speed and strength were also mentioned.
I think we are close to being the underdogs for this cup final!
