The Lotw Diary Celtic 2 Sheepies 1

One thirty on Saturday, we are standing in the boozer waiting on the late supporters bus. The reason the bus is late, is due to the fact oot of 24 season ticket holders and 35 members, there is only SEVEN of us waiting to go to the game. We sent oor 33 seater back to the depot and were awaiting a smaller mode of transport.

Talk was off in all seriousness going to Airdrie to watch the Albion, hopefully condemning the nice beastie boys to life in the 2nd division. The younger ones thought this was a great idea, us, older, maybe wiser but ones who had the unfortunate pleasure of going to the old Broomfield were thinking slightly different.

Decision was takening to go to CP, if the game was pants then pub at half time. We would go in but the mood was after last week’s no-show why should we show up. Right, Lenny’s last game at CP but the only reason most decided to go to game was the fact that we were told he wisnny playing. We thought the changes would be rung wie a new broom in charge for a game.

As the bus neared CP, the news that there had been a dramatic u-turn and Lenny was playing filtered through. Now, who exactly run’s the team? The fact of the matter is Lenny wisnny playing; the board sold the game as Lenny’s farewell and due to this told the management to play him. Now, wie rumours abound that players are being bought for potentially brand exploiting and not fitbaw ability this decision, not taking by the fitbaw side, but by the financial side makes you, again, question the backbone of oor management.

The board say all the time that GS, never complains and is an esteemed man. Nae wonder it seems he panders to their every wim.

Anyway, the team list was read oot and the feeling of interested in the game faded. Kenny Miller wie JVOH. Rioirdon for McGeady. Nae rest for Naka, JJPD getting another chance to impress, JFK returning to his rightful place instead of Elvis and Lee Naylor getting the chance again to re-gain early season promise. Nae exciting changes. The usual suspects getting a wee run oot.

Now, I have heard it was a guid game. I only saw one half. In the one half that I saw nothing was different. Maybe a bit more energy was shown but the slow pace, lack of creativity and lack of edge was plain to see. I’m probably just scunnered right enough. It’s taking me longer to forgive these players for last week and the general apathy that has meet this season has caught me like a North Sea fisherman catching illegal cod.

The guid oot the 1st half was this. Oor Zico, became the Zico like Paul Hartley last seen annoying the living daylights oot of me in a maroon jersey. His lung bursting runs into the box and creativity were what we paid guid money for. His set up play for the second goal- saw it on setanta- was great and it was nice to see him finally look like a player.

JJPD made a mockery of ma Mo Camara comparison. Composed on the ball, pacy and sure of his own ability the bhoy looks like he could do a job for us. He is a better option than Caldwell- who will return at RB for the Cup Final- and also could be decent back up at RB for Wilson. In fact, he may make that spot his own if Willo’s loss of form continues at the start of next season. Will he get a contract though?

JVOH showed again he is a goalscorer who will frustrate and please with equal measure. He spent the 1st half making Russell Anderson look like a player but scored a poachers goal. Making Russell Anderson look like a player is worrying as oor manager has a tendency to buy players who play well against us- see Elvis and Hartley- no matter how often we bleat that they are coo’s.

I left at half time. Went to the pub to find the pub jumping wie other like-minded fans. Most I spoke to all the felt the same as me. While glad for the league, the performances of the players recently have made us think they are unworthy of oor effort in supporting them. That will change of course. The week of the cup final will see us remember the guid things they have achieved this season. Mind you, a wee victory against a struggling Hibs side coupled by another improved performance will do that as well.

And also a wee look at the results yesterday, wie them getting beat, Man Utd losing and Liverpool drawing wie a relegated shows that end of season apathy is just not a Celtic trait.

Forza The Hoops

Kevin, a blogmeister leaving at half time, I`m surprised at you!
To think that I was enjoying this morning knowing that the Bhoys had won and they had lost.
So the cup final is still a major worry then? :-(

I’m having one of those after the event guilt trips, which usually happen after a load of drink and you canny really remember what you have done, but you know that you have done something bad or said something you shouldnae have.

It took me ages to leave the ground at half time. Got oot ma seat went doon stairs and hung around for a good 10 mins before actually plucking up the courage to leave. I blame the hundreds of others leaving at the sametime.:-)

It’s something I never do, but while I regret it now at the time it felt right. Hey Ho.

Yes the cup final is still a worry as it looks like ma postman has stole ma season book renewal form and also ma letter offering me a ticket for the game.

Most got theirs on Saturday……

Wouldn’t read too much into the rustyness of JFK and Mick. 1st game both have played together for years and all it is, is another step towards JFK getting back to fitness.

Never saw The Beats, but again KM didnae do enough for me to suggest that partnering JVOH is his right.

The pole in the goal? Hopefully he will be around for another year at least but then….why did we sign Brown?

According to my renewal form, my ticket will be automatically renewed. I have a deposit coming off in late June and payments in Sept, Oct and Nov.
I can do nothing! :-)
I turned down the chance from hampden for a UEFA cup final ticket. No, no, no! Too tiring! I`m still recovering from the last midweek game! Was it A C Milan? :-)

Re John Kennedy. You may remember that he had problems adjusting when he arrived in the team in 03/04. Hibs in the League Cup? He gave away a penalty and looked slow and cumbersome. Hopefully he will sharpen up when he has played more often.

Ian- I paid for ma season ticket in full last year, 1st year i didnae take the DD option.

I'm hoping Mr Postman has brought me two letters from G40 this evening.

JFK, yer right, i remember that night well at Easter Road. Remember thinking that's another promising youngster failing to live up to expectations.

Few months later it was oh so different.

Kevin, thanks for your account of events regarding your Saturday experience.
As a mere cyber-tim I can pick up a lot of the stuff but your story really put my finger on the pulse.

Seven out of 35 is a real indication of the disaffection going thru the support at the moment,
and even the most hardened foot soldiers, willing to give it 45, etc

Also, I hadn't thought about the money-men overriding the team selection to get Lenny in front of the paying customers. very scary that :o(
I thought it was just the fish supper wrappers that ba'zed it up as usual.

Back to the game, maybe it was just compared to what I have seen in previous weeks (erm, months), I thought it was pretty good to watch. Aberdeen were up for it and on another day it could have been 5 each at the end, and a split of the points would have been a fairer result.

Lucky you didn't see the Beats, my laptop was nearly out the windae and my wife must have picked up a few new expressions -- don't know where they come from myself sometimes :o) But the boy is dire, though it pains me to say it.

Next week, I would expect to see more or less the cup final team get a run out (except Lenny but you never know there do you).
Unfortunately, JoeD will miss out as sentiment will take over and we'll be trying to get medals for Caldwell and Pressley.
Miller deserves his chance, not only because of his good performance on Saturday but mainly thanks to his great goal that got us to the final in the first place.
Will be interesting if we see TG or JJ, if not it could be "cheerio".

Latest on cup final "hospitality" --> price is £229.13 !!
So it's a NOGO for me, especially as I couldn't just go myself and no' take my boy. What also gets me is the "13pence", they have no respect. Does that get you an extra bag of cheese n onion or something ?

Six- Cheers for that.

What i find more scary is the fact we were really really swithering over whether to go to Airdrie or not..now for me that is more indicitive than not turning up.

I can just see myself going to Mrs G when she was on the phone "where are you" "In Airdrie" "But ye left to go to CP...."

I take yer point regarding the game, it was better than recent ones and i must admit i have sat through worse this season.

Another stat for you..ma father in law's bus has 74 season books and 43 were unused on Saturday.

Suppose i would be classed a mineshafter on CQn but i'm not going to beat aboot the bush.

Apathy is the word of this season. Nae one is turning up, less pies, programs, tops etc are being sold. Empty seats in the top tier is the norm.

Has the bubble burst? Defo. Hell, even the fact the bhoy sitting next to me was wearing a shellsuit and brogues combo couldnae keep me at the game....

Am i less of a fan? Of course not. I'm just voicing ma concerns that i really don't see apart from getting mair entertainment on the park what can be done to stop the rot that is setting in.

But i am wondering if Celtic saw me sneaking oot and have now withheld ma cup final ticket....oh, ma paranoia...

£229.13!!!! is that not just ticket touting by Celtic?

May 14, 2007 3:58 PM
Blogger sixtaeseven said...

To be honest it's a full monty (dinner at CPark then official bus to and from Hampden, Celtic end, etc) so it's a wee bit more than a ticket (deatils are on the official site).
But too steep for me.
Most I've ever paid for a ticket was last seasons CL cup final (exact price has been erased from memory so that the wife will never find out but it was about half that for a decent seat and at least it wisna Dunfermline who was playing!).
Although part of the problem for me is paying for me AND the boy, but such is life, won't complain about that :o)

Thanks to your thread, I've got a better idea of how the fans are feeling just now. But surely the powers that be must see what's going on. The only way round that is to get back to playing entertaining fitba'. So there is maybe cause for optimism for next season.

Must admit though, I think they tried at the start of the season to bring in quality (TG and JJ) but for one reason or another things haven't worked out and its backfired (despite the "silver" lining).

Makes you wonder how they must be feeling down Govan way :o)

Anyway signings ths summer will be interesting !!!

six-that is wild reg the tickets.

we got 4 debenture tickets £58 each.

i agree where does the 13p come from.

i thought miller was quite good on saturday as well six but agree kev we definetley need better.

im not sure wot sort of team we will play next week.

heard a rumour last week we had signed viduka on a pre-contract but think if that was the case it would have been announced by now.

i would definetley give doumbe a deal but who knows wot will happen.

Seven, I took me ages (i'm a bit slow) but the 13p comes when they add the vat - but even so...
If you happen to hear of two tickets let us know (a long shot I know but who knows).

Agree miller was QUITE good on saturday and need better; sometimes you feel good for the guy when he does something right. Same would go for Beatie but it never seems to happen.
You're right, we need better but all over.

The BIG worry is that compared with the EPL (a MONSTER) we are looking at the dregs that are left.
This summer more than ever.
One GOOD one in 20 come thru youth system 9Aiden, Mick, ...), you might get a 1 in 3 (Naka, Artur, Jan..) come from good scouting and SPL level megabucks, but are the days of the GREATS at CPark finished ?

May 14, 2007 7:55 PM
Blogger Seven said...

i will, kevin is struggling for a ticket as well hopefully u both get one thru somebody.

i know wot u mean regarding the EPL the money there is unbelievable.

hopefully the days of greats aren't over but it seems to get harder and harder all the time.

gs and lawell have been very good so far at getting the most possible for players on the way out, maloney, petrov, varga, wallace etc and this is were we have to try and be clever again this summer.

the fact there is so much money available in england means if anyone wants miller, gravesen, jarosik etc we can hopefully make a few bob and reinvest it with the money already available.

i would be happy with a top drawer forward to give us 2 from magic, jan, mcdonald riordan and the new signing to pick from and 2 if possible really good midfielders.

thats my personal view, would anyone like to see us strengthen elsewhere before these positions?

also meant to say i agree regarding the board trying to bring in quality.

i was delighted with jj and tg but it hasn't worked out for either unfortunately.

kev when u said why did celtic sign brown did u mean mark or scott?

Seven- Viduka? Not exactly the pacy centre forward we are looking for but would his massive ego and massive wage packet get through parkheids gates?

Six- yer quite correct. If you bring in, say 6 players per summer and 3 are successful then you have done fantastically well. I think oor youth system has been quite productive recently but the days of greats coming to CP are gone. Players will come be developed and sold on.

Agree wie both, JJ and TG while I was delighted both signed have disappointed. The possible signing news this morning means I think both will leave.

A second striker and a creative centre mid would be ma choices for big spends.

Seven- the mark or scott??? That’s for me to know what I meant:-)

Anyway, went home and got ma season ticket renewal, no cup final offer. Panic has set in due to a name being included in ma group for away tickets who was taken off two seasons ago and one of ma mates being missing. Could be the reason why no offer as the guy who is on it disnny go anymair….the bhoy that’s missing does.

All in ma group, apart from the rogue, meet the set criteria for cup final ticket. Got a feeling due to this one person, the rules are all in the group must meet the criteria if they don’t all don’t qualify…..

10 o’clock canny come quick enough for a wee phone call to the ticket office

Well, my fear was correct. The nice wee wumin on the phone at CP confirmed the reason I’m ticketless for the cup final at the moment. When asked how to change it, she said “score the guys name out and return it so it’s ok for next year, sorry” “But there maybe a further sale next Monday”

Cheers hen.

Much heid scratching is now being done after that telephone conversation as I told oor bus convener I could tell his face went chalk white. He hastly hung up and I’m sure is on the phone to all members of the bus trying to see who got offer letters.

Anyway, ho hum, Sno yes the big fellow was on Celtic Tv the other night saying that he wanted to be back for the cup final and was hoping a wee run oot against Hibs could be in order.

It looks like an announcement on Skoosh will not be forthcoming today. Still time for him to go to the darkside.

May 15, 2007 12:51 PM
Blogger sixtaeseven said...

Kevin, you should keep plugging away at the ticket office (escalate!) especially if its their mistake. "Score it out so it’s ok for next year" is no' exactly what you might call "proactive".
Seems a very poor way to treat regular fans.

About Brown, I hope he comes tho' I'm surprised at the amount of money being mentioned. But that probably comes down to having to compete with EPL clubs. You would think that any chance of him being lured by murray mint must be dead.

One thing that worries me, is that we are going to have a relatively young team. Any other signings need to be guys that will bring a bit of character & experience -"street wise" in a footballing sense. Things that probably TG and JJ left in their previous dressing room :o(

Six- it is there mistake but trying to get them to admit it is the problem. The girl was nice enough, said there was nothing she could really do. They are talking from a hymn sheet the same as all good / bad call centre do. If you go up the ladder I will get the same response.

Fact of the matter is I have no real evidence I have changed the name and from experience in my own work and wie dealing wie places like CFC nae evidence nae backdoon. Ma word against theirs. I still have nightmares aboot the Seville mix up wie the registration.

It’s fair to say that at lunchtime today I put things in motion to ensure that it won’t happen next year.

Anyway, now I’m begging and calling in favours wie almost anyone who has worked or has drunk a pint of tennents it’s nae different asking for 5 tickets instead of 3. So I will keep you posted.

The money for skoosh is too much IMO. But wie the EPL sniffing around what can we do. If der hun are still interested they would now need to blow their whole budget. Something they won’t do.

Too right we will have a young team. Which probably means elvis will see oot his remaining year…..

Elvis another season?? I hope not

Pretty happy about Skoosh, fits the mould of what I wanted big time, but hope that it definately mean that one of TG or Hartley goes.

As for the money, it works out at just less than £1m a season over 5 years for the transfer fee with wages on top. As long as he continues his development as his potential suggests then it may not be too bad overall.

WGS often misses IMO at the bottom to middle end of the market, but have to admit when he actually spent a few quid at Cov, more often than not he got it right. Remember him buying Keane for £6m from Wolves and doubling his money with Milan, 1 year later?

Now I know its not Celtic PC to admit that you buy/read the record but Senior Baldy has it delivered every day as its the only Scottish fitba related paper you can get pretty much everywhere in Angleterre. He was showing me the free football photos they were giving out from the other week, which included a Lisbon lions one(taken for the baldy archives) and one of 'Top Hun' John Greig.

Anyone else see them? The one of Greig, holding the Cup winners cup in the bath after 72, at first gave me a double take as it was the spitting image of our own Hartley. troubled me big time.

Hail hail one and all

baldy

Re tickets. The attendance for the Falkirk league cup and Dumbarton Scottish cup matches were below 19,000. These games were mentioned by the ticket office as contributing to getting a ticket. As soon as they are mentioned that means that those 19,000 should all get tickets.
Being on the home ticket direct debit scheme is the equivalent to having `MUG` tatooed on your forehead! That`s how you`ll know me! :-)
Of course I got tickets from Hampden which is just as well! The fairest way would be to ballot all the season ticket holders and give them all an even chance. I don`t think that one season ticket holder is more deserving than another. That`s just my opinion.
First Hartley and now Brown. Have we stopped signing nice people?

Ian- The ticket office has changed the message on the official site to include the livi game. To start with it was Falkirk, St Mirren- both in CIS cup- Dumbarton and the Semi. Now I’m not saying that they have moved the goal posts but any other season attendance at the semi got you a final ticket….

Anyway, I wasn’t at the Dumbarton game- flying home from Hols and didnae make the Livi game was working and I hate Livi and I’m not on the Home Cup scheme.

So add all three together then I no longer qualify. Ho hum, I’m no longer bothered by what the ticket office do. Law to themselves. If they say I’m not deserving so be it. Karma, I have had a guid run and I’m maybe paying for taking things for granted.

Funny thing is all 8 that got tickets for the CF from CP, on ma bus are on the home cup ticket scheme

I like the fact we have signed two wee narks. Gives the away fans something to boo now lenny is away.

Talking about euro finals in Glasgow, I remember being at the final in 76 when the we were all up the celtic end supporting les Verts.
Funny to think that Hampden was half empty that night but the crowd that was there (55k)would have more than filled the current stadium.
Great time was had by all as pubs were allowed to stay open until...midnight (earth-shattering at the time).

Those were the days - when weekday pintage was the norm and being shattered was a permanent state :o)
